Thanks so much for all the information, experience, and suggestions. KSGreenman: Thank you. What a history roses have. Can you imagine walking through those rose fields in Eastern Europe and the Middle East? What a memory that would be. And thank you for the link to information about Gruss an Treplitz. I haven't seen anyone post about this rose before. Please tell us about your experiences with it, maybe post an image. How did you come across this rose? Also could you send a link to the information you referenced on RVR's website? I couldn't locate it. Kim: What a wonderful way to begin a morning! I wonder if Sherry did use currants in her Mlle. Cecile Brunner jelly? I've seen that some recipes call for fruits of different sorts and then a small amount of rose water to give the jelly more of an aroma than flavor. I love currants, unfortunately it is illegal to grow them here in NC. I agree that it seems more appropriate to use OGRs and Cecile Brunner is a pretty suggestion. I will move her higher up on my wish list, I think. Thanks, Val. I've been wanting the Apothecary Rose for a couple years. So many roses, it's difficult not go a little overboard in the spring. Mad Gallica: Ooh, that jam sounds pretty. I'll look more into Hippolyte. HMF says it has a mild fragrance. What has your experience been? Whether different roses imparted a different flavor -- that's something I had been wondering about. Thank you. Oath: I've heard amazing things about Roseraie de L'Hay's fragrance, I'm not sure about how she'd do in my zone, though I do have a good northern exposure. And Leda! I am new to old roses but not that new, how have I overlooked her? How do you think RdlH's fragrance compares to Leda's in strength? Thank you. Mariannese: Thank you. It's good to know which roses are good for drying and with scents that grow stronger. There was a thread about about Conditorum in November 2010 that didn't seem to go very far. Do you grow both? If you could only choose one, which would you choose? Thanks, everyone, again for all your help!

I asssume you already know about Imperatrice Elisabeth d'Autriche, a fragrant and beautiful hybrid perpetual. On Helpmefindroses, I don't see any indication that Sissi Ketten (it has two ss's by the way) is available. Good luck. Ingrid

Help Me Find Roses lists two US sources. Rogue Valley Roses Angel Gardens They both have websites and they are both reputable dealers. If you don't see it listed as available on their websites try calling them. Sometimes they may have one or two plants around but not enough to put on the site. Or you can ask if they have plans to have it in the near future and be put on a waiting list.

Check your local Home Depot for tall metal trellises. They aren't real fancy, but are fairly sturdy, and once the climber covers it, it won't matter if the trellis is fancy or not. The Home Depot ones are cheaper than most of the ones I've seen advertised in various kinds of gardening catalogs. However, I have also bought 8 ft obelisks from a couple different places--they are all right, but do tend to start disintegrating after about 5 years. I've had to replace two of them. Kate
