They germinate on average between 10-14 days, although I've had some take a little longer. The seeds need light to germinate and have to be sown on the soil surface....how deeply did you sow the seeds? I push the seeds into the pre-dampened soil mixture, spray water them down, then cover with a clear plastic sheet. They've always germinated this way for me. Mine are placed under the lights before germination. A couple of other things....are you keeping the soil (especially the top of the soil) evenly moist? If you let it dry out, then you lose the time for germination. If you have your seed cells under lights and on top of a heating mat, that might be too much heat and you're cooking the seeds. Thanks Carol. I have a feeling that you are right, however I'm now wondering at the oddity of mine. It seems most Salvia leucantha have a dark calyx and white flower. Mine is inverted. Lol.

Found it in my records.... Salvia 'Riverside Sage' (S. karwinskii x greggii). I'm ashamed to admit this is the second time I've asked for this plant ID. Mixes for rooting cuttings should be a sterile medium,without any humus or fertilizer. An initially sterile potting soil for cuttings will get contaminated with pathogens more quickly overtime. If you have plants that root quickly, a humusy soil will work. However, slow to root plants need to be in a less reactive medium. I've tried inadvertent experiments with slow cuttings in vermiculite that were starting to root. When I saw new, light green tips on about a third of my cuttings, I fertilized the baby flat with a little plant starter liquid fertilizer, and the cuttings with the new, light tip growth took off as expected. However, the cuttings that had not yet rooted mostly took a turn for the worse and eventually died off, with only a few rooting. Cuttings need a sparse, airy medium to force them to develop the organs they need to take in not only water, but nutrients. When they develop the critical mass of new roots, then they can absorb nutrients as well. Exposed cambium and/or callus can only work through osmosis, drawing in enough water to keep the cutting turgid until it finds the resources to form new roots.
