What filter system and pump?

My pond is now just over 2000 gallons and heavily stocked with Koi and Goldfish.(was only 1200 gallons but a lot of digging!)I have a blagdon 8000 pump and a Ecomax 9000 filter going through a further biological filter. The whole system needs updating as it is now struggling to keep water clean. I have to clean the pump every day and thats a chore. What do people recommend? Oase or Oasis, Bioys Set 3 or a Vortec System? I will probably keep existing filter system as well. Any comments greatly appreciated.

Oase pumps are or were good, I havent tried the new aquamaxes but assume they will be, hence the "were".
Sorry I cant help with the filters but I would guess you will be wanting more than 5000lph from the pump which means at least a 6000lph aquamax and IMO that would be on the small side. You need to look at the flow charts for the pumps you are interested in. You also want to think about plumbing size and for at least 1000gph I wouldnt go below 1.5"

How many Koi and goldfish have you got? My pond is 2000 gallons and fairly heavy stocked as well but my filters are homemade or converted comercial ones.

I had seen the bio filters that look like closed barrels that sit outside the pond. That was what I first thought of getting but since its my Stocktank that is above ground, it would be difficult to set up and it still would need a pump. I think this that I just bought will work well, at least I hope so. I did not get to setting it up yesterday or this morning so will do so later.

Thank you guys! The electricity as it now stands is to the left, across the brick hardscape, in a corner behind a little wall, where all the old pool equipment is. Good point, curb1. My filter arrived today in a gigantic box. I am scared - I want to do this right!

I just went through the same thing. Gunite and plaster pool, about 24000 gallons. Upgraded my old single speed 1-1/2hp Pentair Whisperflo pump with a Pentair VS pump. Replaced my Pentair Clean and Clear 240 cartridge filter with a Pentair Quad DE 100. The filter could easily be considered oversize for my pool, but the Quad DE will filter better than the old C&C, and the larger size will give me longer runs between cleanings. I like the "hybrid" aspect of the Quad DE. The ease of cartridges, the filtering of DE. I'm going to direct-plumb the filter, meaning no multi-port valve. I don't know much about Hayward, but I highly recommend the move to the variable speed pump. If they offer a 2-speed pump that might save you money on pump coast and running costs.

Late to the party here but holy cow do you ever need to invest in some isolation valves. Every single line should have a ball valve on it and you would be silly to install a system like this below grade without them. While I certainly like to save money wherever possible there is a flow problem with this setup that a secondary pump would resolve. The amount of flow that the floor cleaning system needs is appreciable and the way your system is set up you have a huge flow restriction with the ozone venturi directly in front of the auto-cleaner valve. The floor cleaner will underperform and your pump wil have to work its but off to supply the water. Since you did ask a specific question which I have not answered here yet, but a variable speed pump and match it to a suitably sized cartridge filter. You have a very nice, high end pool installation and this is the equipment you would expect to see on a pool like this.

When I emptied the pond to reline it and make it deeper I counted 115 fish in total.I found new homes for 40 and since then have bought 5 6" koi. Most of the fish are goldfish,3 x shubunkins, 5 x Ghost Koi, 5 x Orfe(12" long)and the new koi.I really have neither the time or inclination to make a homemade filter although I can see some advantages in this.Not rich but find you might as well buy best if possible.

Ok, that's an awful lot of fish for that size pond. I really haven't got much experience with larger commercial filters so maybe someone else can help. I can tell you it would be best if you could gravity feed to a vortex or mechanical filter of some kind first before pumping or carrying through to the biofilters. All those fish will make a lot of mess and you really don't want to pump it into the mech filter.

It sounds like you don't have a bottom drain but maybe you could add one or retrofit one in as most comercial decent filters work best with a gravity fed 4" inlet. It will make life a lot easier as well, a lot less pump cleaning, well none really.
