@mbrad, I just rolled up to remember this thread and saw your transplanted forever Goldy. The width of it reminds meme of two of mine that have a double Center leader. Because they are so small I haven't cut it out yet. I probably should. LOL. Is yours a single leader?

Ive got about 8, all from HD. Im guessing I planted 2, 3 years ago 4, 2 years ago and a couple last year. I really really like them and they are all doing well (the one that was attcked by a deer is recovering nicely). Ive got them planted in everything from full sun (as full as full sun gets though central ohio isnt southern cakifornia as far as sun) to significant shade most of the day. The one planted in the most shade looks fully healthy it just isnt growing as fast. The one in full sun is the one that got mangled by the deer, it has a more "just yellow" yellow color. All are thriving and the color is really amazing on all them. The yellow" yellow mentioned above is a nice color but the ones that get shade have a real nice "glowing/fluorescent" hue to them. Simply stated I am thoroughly impressed with these Big Box Buys, especially at 50% off. Ive also got a couple Sunkist. Like those as well, but the color of the 4ever goldy is much more "glowing/neon-like". It is my favorite "brightish light yellowish/light greenish/chartreuseish" color of all my conifers. 2nd place is far behind, I am that impressed (I dont have many "fancy" conifers though). In the late fall/winter they get that orangish color in the original post. Did I say I really like these? Here are the two I planted last fall-pic taken last fall (my land is really really really wet hence the mounds, right now my "mini standard garden" (Ken's idea) is surrounded by a moat). One is in the middle of my "standard mini garden" (middle of pic)and the other is in the upper right, just to the left of the topped Canadian hemlock ($10). I look forward to watching these grow! Also planted fall were the enci mugo pine (bottom), and picea omorika nana (up and to right from enci), cupressina norway spruce (center back furthest in the "brush), moonfire japanese maple (up and to right from nana). A baby blue spruce is being split by the tree in upper middle, etc. Thats a papoose spruce on the biggest mound. Yes I realize I will be adding dirt until I die lol. On that Enci mugo pine in the bottom of pic. (Late) last fall within 30 minutes of me planting it a deer either took a big bite out of it or walked through it. I could never find the pieces and since the deer was standing right next to it, I, guessing it took a bite out if it. I could fit my fist into it, it was like a 3.5" diameter hole of needles/branches missing. About 3 weeks later the entire mugo had shrunk and the hole was gone. As in zero sign of it(its not what appears to be a hole just left of center on the top) This spring it is normal as well. I could not believe what I had witnessed and would have never guessed that could happen, especially how quickly it did. Makes sense though. Ma Na.

Well, actually they just came from an apple we got at Walmart. We are aware that the the quality of the fruit is unknown when grown from a random seed but it's still a fun experiment.
