Hi Usually the gift roese like you received are not potted in the best of soil and they are usually it a pot that is way to small for them. Roses need sunlight and that means grown outside. Your rose was most likely grown in a greenhouse and pushed to bloom out of season. Look at the post "How to save a Potted Gift Rose and you should be able to save the rose. Good Luck.

Depends on where you have your rose. Are you keeping it inside? Roses do not like to be inside unless you have very sophisticated lighting and moisture control. Now if you do have your rose outside and the leaves are turning yellow it could be just normal depending on how many leaves are yellow. roses shed older leaves all the time which is normal or it could just be the climate change. Most roses people ask about are "store bought" roses and they are grown in greenhouses and then sold to stores where they are kept inside. This requires them to be "hardened off" which means to put them outside in semi shade for a few hours everyday for a week or so and then they can be left outside. These "Store Bought" mini roses are hard to kill if treated properly and planted outside in the ground or even in a big pot (12" or larger). Good luck and Happy Gardening! Ms.Mary

The rose is not getting enough light hence the problems, Powdery Mildew is due to the climate changes that the roses is inside now. I would rather place a fluorescent light on top of the rose if it is not possible to place the rose outside at all. Place a lamp above it around 4-5 inches above the plant to provide it light and nib off all those leaves which are PM affected. Try Sodium Bicarbonate with lil soap mix to spray on the rose to avoid aphids and PM later.

Hi Lime, I have Winsome and Santa Claus near minature roses, an un-named salmon colored minature which looks like Sonja, and a yellow minature. I do not know anything about their hardiness, I live in a zone where I do not have to worrry about that to much. Tell me more about your daffodils and your lilies. Kathy
