Rose Festival at Hex Castle (Belgium)

Hello,

The annual Rose Festival at Hex Castle (Belgium, not too far from Liège) will take place on Friday the 7th, Sat. the 8th and Sunday the 9th of June. The castle gardens are definitely worth a visit. The rose collection in the gardens has its roots in the 18th Century.

A number of specialised old rose nurseries will sell roses in pots during the rose festival (I notice the names of Beales, Lens and Schmitz on the list), booksellers will offer interesting collector's items,...

For more information, you can visit the Hex site:

Since I was working in Brussels for a few months last spring I was interested in seeing rose gardens. I had the opportunity of going to the gardens of Hex, and I must admit that it was like a fairy tale.I am very fond of old garden roses, and this garden contained a number of roses which I want to grow myself - most of them with the most wondeful fragrance. Anyone with even the slightest interest in gardening in general, and roses in particular, should leap at the chance of seeing this garden. It was better than Kew Gardens, better than the Floriade, better than Monet's garden - which were the other gardening events I managed to see.

    Hello,

The well-known botanist Ivan Louette will attend too, with a stand about amateur breeding. I'll give him a little help
    there.
    Best wishes,
    Pete.
