Hello All. I will purchase bamboo from netherland for future growing in my house for future landing in my garden. I'm living nearby Kiev city. It's too late to landing bamboo right now. With light I should use for growing bamboo? 1. General use HPS? 2. HPS for growing (more light in blue area spectrum). 3. General use metal halide. 4. Metal halide for growing. I'm expect that number 2 is the best choise but it's only because I'm think that the green spectrum in light do noting for growing. And sodium lamp have no ultraviolet light (or have much less) that MH. So it's no smell ozone or nitrogen oxides.

If the masonry wall is as deep as the bottom of the barrier, there is no need to form a complete ring around the bamboo. While it is possible that a rhizome could run along the masonry wall and then squeeze in behind the barrier and get out, that's not a huge risk, and would be easily remedied once it was spotted. If it were me, I'd install it just as you've drawn it, but with only a foot or so of overlap against the concrete on either end. Having more overlap does nothing, and just makes it harder to deal with a rhizome that goes between the barrier and the wall. On the other hand, if you want to completely encircle it, have the lap seam at the front so that it is easier to deal with a rhizome that escapes between the overlap. People who are really paranoid close the lap with a pair of stainless steel bars bolted together, but I consider that to be overkill.

While this may have worked well for you, in general this is dangerous advice. Your idea sounds about as safe as the "pull-out" to avoid pregnancy. Nurseries and garden centers make mistakes. Sometimes they carry mislabeled varieties. Even if you do correctly identify a species and plant something that's a "zone-pusher", you're risking an awful lot for really no reason. Clumping varities grow very rapidly too. I don't really see the reason for this unless there's a very, very specific cultivar you're after that doesn't have a comparable clumping cousin. What if you accidentally plant something that's super aggressive and you don't realize it until it's too late? The correct way to plant running varieties is in large cement planters that run the length of the fence or desired planting site. Tall edges ensure the rhizomes do not jump out of the planter and spread throughout the yard...or neighborhood.

Galvanized metal troughs work perfectly...until the bamboo inevitably gets rootbound and starts dying. Then you have a large container of sickly and dead bamboo that weighs hundreds, perhaps thousands, of pounds. Because of the dense woody structure of the rhizomes, it will be impossible to get the plant out of the trough without destroying the container. It will be nice for a number of years, but just be prepared to deal with the predictable consequences. I have a friend who went even further. He bought a large, steel, cylindrical tank for containment, and buried it in his backyard. Fast forward several years and he then had a container of roots and dirt and dead bamboo that weighed so much that there was no way he could excavate around it and lift it out of the ground. So now he has a 2' diameter cylindrical area in his yard where nothing will grow.
