root poison

hello roselovers.

i ask your help and comments concerning the following:

when i started with roses (5 years ago) i heard a teaching that you must never plant a rose to a same place where the previous one was without changing the ground around the new one. that the rose roots secrete a specific substance that is poisonous to next one. i have believed it and always planted the new one to fresh ground. lately there has been cases when suspect that i have overlooked the matter and the new planted roses are not happy with their new places.

does someone point out any source in the internet where i could study the matter or could someone help me with the problem.

- does the problem exist

- when it is so then how much ground must i change (one way or another closely planted rose roots will cross)

thaks for your help... e-le'phant
