western red cedar

I am looking for western red cedar prunning offcuts (which I use as a herbal ingredient)for which I can pay Â£5/kg for the leaves. I will also do all the gathering it up etc.I expect between 5 and 10 kg at a prunning. London is preferable but I will travel if neccesary. If now is not prunning time then I would still appreciate your email now telling me when prunning takes place. Much obliged.

That's an interesting post. Our neighbour's western red cedar hedge overhangs our boundary so we trim it off in spring but I don't think there's enough to make it worth your while this time. I will bear this in mind though.
At one time Ransome's the chemist used to collect horse chestnuts for medicinal use but sadly not anymore because we always have bagsful of these to get rid of.

I pull up volunteer tree seedlings all the time, and they would- if I let them grow- be appropriate for our climate, unlike WRC. If I mailed you one of our oak seedlings- unsolicited- would it just kill you to throw it out? Probably not, since oaks are common here. It's the novelty factor that's making it hard to toss it out. Toxic?? No. Western red cedars grow naturally in my area and happily in close proximity with many other plants, both natives and exotic ornamental species. And they have not been shown to have any significant allelopathic characteristics. They do contain a high concentration of essential oils that help to reduce decay (western red cedar wood is very resistant to decay and slow to decompose) as well as be repellent to a number of insect pests. But the composted bark should not have any negative effect on other plants.

The recessed track lighting you saw was part of the living room. Thier staying. I would do inset LEDs but I live in a condo and have to drill though slot of joist and worry about making contact with the sprinkler lines. I like the idea of a the LEDs sitting in a white panel box in the kitchen to aim more light over the counter. I'm stopping with the cedar. I only added a skirt under the counter and a base board. I can't remember the last time I saw a moth inside. the cedar is treated, sealed and I inspected each pease. I will be replacing the outlet covers. Thanks ci_lantro, moma goose, roccouple and cat_ky. I'm laying on the floor now. My condo only 800sq ft. when I remodeled I extended the counter width an extra 6 inches. So an area got alittle smaller. So I had to downsize my Sectional Sofa. I sold it IOFER in 4hrs. My new leather Sofa and recliner will be here Saturday. it's going to be sweet.

Any difference among brands of Western Red Cedar Shingles for Siding?

I can't tell you if the two brands you are considering have different quality cedar shakes, but there are grading standards for cedar shakes and for cedar shingles. You need to compare products meeting the same grading standards. With regards to your request Graeme, i made a mistake in that i spelt pinetum wrong
A pinetum is basically a aboretum (tree collection, think kew gardens) with a heavy emphasis on softwoods. No idea where in this glorious country you are, but try the bedgebury pinetum

Better off contacting the Forestry Commission or large local landowners with a good forester who might have plantations of it
