Lobelia Tupa

I have just moved my precious, seed-raised lobelia tupa from a choice spot at the front of a sunny border, having read that it can grow to 8' (About 3' last year). The root system was plump, juicy and huge. I hate that sound of reluctant, deeply embedded taproots giving way, but I felt it had to be done. I now have a pile of roots, not dissimilar to comfrey, to plant somewhere near the back. Will it behave like a comfrey, i.e. sprout vigorously from every tiny portion, or have I offended it deeply, never to see it again? I did leave one section in situ, just in case. I thought I would save & pot up fragments of root to see what would happen.
