I have an arbor & a pergola (both high traffic , so have to be nearly thornless) that need a disease resistant climber for zone 6. I have been looking at Eden, Jasmina, Nahema, Renae, Zephrine Drouhin, Heritage, Excellenz von Schubert & Laguna. I was thinking Zephrine & Laguna would be too vigorous. I am looking for a rose to grow over the arbor, not eat it. I am leaning towards Eden for the pergola & either Jasmina, Nahema or Renae for the arbor. Any experience with these roses or suggestions? I am feeling a bit overwhemed..lol. Ty in advance

It would help to know where you are so we would know if a particular rose would do well for you or not. On the color it depends on whether you want a lot of high contrast or a more muted look. White or pale colored roses will show up the best against the red brick. For a more subtle look you could do white Iceberg rose trees with a pale pink carpet rose. For a bright look try a yellow tree rose, maybe Julia Child if it's available, with carpet roses in white. There are lots of combinations and no roses really look bad with each other. You just need to decide what look appeals to you most.

I see you have plenty of input on roses with thorns. I thought I would add 2 that no one posted, and they are Glamis Castle which is a white David Austin English rose, planted together they make a nice hedge and a hybird tea called First Prize which is pink with huge blooms, both of these are thorny as heck. I have both of these and they always get me when I deadhead them. The First Prize gets a little taller then the Glamis Castle. My parents have a vacation beach house in San Diego and they plant thorny rose bushes in front of all the windows to stop anyone getting to the windows when they are not there. No one is going to get through these roses with there deadly thorns to get to the windows to break in, thorny roses make good deterrents from any theif trying to get to a window to break in.
