Spain has a Mediterranean climate like California and Southern Oregon where I live. You will be able to grow fabulous roses as long as you have enough water. You may need to give the deep reds some afternoon shade. Tea-noisettes, teas, and chinas will be great there and most of the other classes except perhaps some of the gallicas and albas.

Most roses have more blooms and healthier foliage with lots of sun, but some like the Knockout family of roses and 'antique' roses will do well with less than optimum conditions. One of the prettiest plantings I ever saw was a bed of combined red, pink and blush Knockout roses at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens. I'll look for a picture. A rose I'm growing now is doing well with not much sun is Julia Child. It's yellow, stays small and is fragrant. It got pretty straggly looking during those rainy weeks, but has put on healthy new foliage and is blooming. My absolute favorite rose for beauty, health, fragrance, large size of bloom and heat resistance is September Morn. Scroll down about 11 posts to see my pictures and description of it.

It's probably the rootstock. I would mark those canes and see if they bloom again this summer, if not it's almost positively the rootstock. Dr. Huey is a once bloomer that only blooms on old wood. If it reblooms you know it's not Dr Huey rootstock. If it's rootstock most likely the grafted rose will die out and Huey will take over. Someone more knowledgable will have to advise if there is any chance of saving the grafted plant by cutting those newer canes off all the way down below the ground - my only experiences with Dr Huey were cases where the grafted plant had completely died off during bad winters and I ended up removing the entire plant.

Maria, Thanks for the description and picture, I very much appreciate them! I like the color on yours better...a bit pinker than mine. I’m hoping the color is quite distinct from Fragrant Cloud, I was wishiing for a giant deep pink version of FC. I have Dolly Parton too, the flower is magnificent but the plant is a bit of a runt. So far my favorite of FC’s kids is Just Joey, albeit it’s a totally different look I ended up giving the prime spot I had planned for Rose Sachet to Buxom Beauty, when it bloomed this season I realized I already had a huge , wonderfully scented deep pink But even from the young shoots I can tell Rose Sachet is a good grower with substantial blooms, and I think we both have a very promising new rose in our gardens. When I see more of the blooms I’ll know where to put her.
