Hi I am new to this forum which I found today whilst trying to find out some info about orfe, golden and blue. Can anyone help? Our orfe went mad in a mating frenzy this morning and have layed masses and masses of eggs. All good news you might think!! Good news ,yes, but we are moving house and pond in early June!!!!!! Do we stand a chance of raising some fry to take with us? What to be need to do?

Worried and anxious new mum.

How long will the journey be for the fish and the fry? Obviously the shorter the journey the better, enough air in the bags and taking care not to overheat.
Will the new pond be ready or will you have to have a temptorary holding pond?
I'm not an expert on fish, but I'm sure someone else will be able to help.
Will you riase the fry til June in the same pond, in a fry net or in a separate pond or tub?

WE are relocating back to the north of England from West Sussex. There will be a pond there ready so that will be OK. We are hoping to move middle of June Will we have fry by that time do you know?

Thanks for all the input. From waht everyone is saying they should do well were they are. They get bright light all day and a couple of hours of direct sun in the morning time. They are also close enough to the edge of the patio to get rain also. Though I do water my other plants with tap water and well water I dont think I will do that with the vandas. Im a car enthusist also and from what Ive seen washing my car our water is terrible for sensitive plants since it spots the hell out of your car if not toweled off. I will work on getting a can to catch rain water, or use distilled if none is available. So far I have managed not to spend too much money....lol. I had one given to me, purchased one of all places, Wal Mart and saved 2 of them from HD, they were not in flower and had been there for some time so I got 2 $29.00 plants for $10 each. But I can imagine if I see an excellent plant for sale I will surely buy it. I am an Artist so I look forward to creative ways of mounting them to driftwood and things like that. Terry, Hello, Hello!! It is so good to get an update and hear y'all are doing well. I'm needing a pic fix of your adorable grandbaby! Huge kudos RE:school. It is so exiting and surely takes a ton of effort. It was 'easy' enough young with not much else to do, but I've been trying to grab an opportunity with real adult life issues for years and years now, too. I just got really started on it and am 'lucky' enough to have the time [disabled back] and it is SO HARD with adult responsibiities. And I don't even have kids! It sounds like you enjoy it too, which is all the better! Keep up the good work, remember a B is fine too, lol... but dazzle them with those skills! We'll want graduation pics so don't you dare forget :)

Hi! We just moved into a new house on 1 1/4 acres way out in the desert, so we have a bare slate to start with! For summer and fall, we're preparing the yard with mulch, digging water lines, setting up arbors and trellises, and laying pavers. When it cools off, we'll start planting. We want trees and climbing vines, and lots of pretty flowers. Being originally from East Texas, I want lots of vegetation, but here in the desert, I also want to be friendly to the local environment. So I got the low-water plant guide from the water conservation folks, and I'm going mostly by that. Of course, it doesn't have my roses (my favorite plant), but we're dealing with that!lol!! I didn't know there was such a thing as blue potatoes! Have fun! Amy

That's a long journey to keep the same temperature!

"Spawns in schools over weed beds or gravel in shallow areas. Produces thousands of pale yellow eggs c. 2 mm in diameter. Hatching occurs in one to two weeks, producing young fish 8-10 mm long (McDowall, 2000).
Lifecycle stages
Matures at three to four years of age. Spawning occurs in spring (McDowall, 2000)."

So yes, they will have hatched, but you will have to stop the adult fish eating them.
