A friend of mine gave me some seeds he got from NY Chinatown. The seed is like regular pumpkin seed. The plant is like Kabocha, but with a smaller size. What I'd like to know is: 1. Possible to be some kind of melon? I think the seed may be too large to be a melon. 2. Is this a winter squash or summer squash? The skin is still very smooth, but it is not very soft like some summer squash. I assume it is winter squash, no valid reason. Is it possible that this can be Delicata, Spaghetti squash? How can the plants from the same batch have both round and long shape?

Ccabal, I think I figured out exactly what it is.. thanks to your comment. I researched c maxima plants and read a list of different things within that species.. one of the types of pumpkins that is considered to be c maxima is "jarrahdale blue pumpkins." We planted jarrahdale, sugar baby, Cinderella and pink porcelain doll pumpkin seeds this year.. apparently the former is part of that category. Didn't realize it'd be so large when I bought the seeds on etsy, but now it makes sense why this plant is bigger and taller than all the others. I was wondering why this one was more than 6x the size of the others.. I thought maybe I'd put extra compost of fert in the area it's in. Thank you again.. I'm hoping to have many blur pumpkins this year!!

I live in zone 2b/3, it is still at least 2 weeks until our last frost free day, although this year spring is very early and I have taken a chance with some cool loving vegetables like peas. My peas and swiss chard are up already! This may be the first year I have ever planted vegetables outside in April!! I have been monitoring the soil temp and first thing in the morning it is still only 55/60 so I think it is too chilly for tender plants. Unless of course, I put them under plastic.

Hi guys, I got these from the market and over here in Ghana they are all known as pumpkin or squash with the colors and shape used for identification. But I would like to know the exacts names. Can anybody please ID these for me? Thank you
