They like average moisture with good drainage, mine just had way too much with that drain keeping the soil too wet but I'd planted it there because it was a moist spot and I'd read they like that. They also do well in partial sun. I sowed mine --warm temps in cups with plastic bags on top to keep moist-- in winter in a sunny window but you can sow in spring, they come up in about 10 days or so. Now that you brought it up, I decided sow some more to plant in some spots that get sun for only a few hours and see how they do. mxk3, first year with no blooms is fairly typical for perennials. By the end of the first year you should have a nice sized plants with good root systems though. I imagine keeping them a bit on the dry side in winter further north would be good so make sure it has good drainage. We had thick ice one year and I lost one to rot on the north side of the house.

Haven't met an upright sedum that I didn't like The brighter, the better- pastels tend to disappear in my gardens- white is welcome! Generally love anything with a well-behaved habit- things that are "mounding" or have a "compact" or "clump" form Always on the lookout for interesting heucheras to add to the collection. Don't rule it out if it's 'common,' because I do love my liatris & marigolds- got any named or newer ones or a liatris other than the 3-foot purple? Any Butterfly stuff (looking for "Bouquet" Dill) Please exclude: groundcovers, tall cosmos, herbs (other than butterfly ones), "xeriscaping" varieties...that's about it. I'm open to most anything. Thanks so much for your warm welcoming attitude, Pitt. I just didn't want to post too much. I have a tendency to want to grow EVERYTHING that is gorgeous and interesting to ME, and very often customers want to know what "this" flower is and "that" flower is, never knowing it existed! There are some here that are OBVIOUSLY not suitable for cutting (stem length-alyssum/hollyhock/morning glory, too "wild & rangy"-like ratibida, not long enough lasting-papaver?, or just not worth it in a zone with a short growing season like mine) but if something here "seems" unable to be cut, but YOU KNOW CAN be cut for SHORT bouquets, please inform me! I don't have that much more room in my yard, so I really need to pare this list down! Also, if any of these are much better GROWING FROM AN ESTABLISHED PLANT, instead of by my starting from seed, would you mind letting me know?
