All my cats ever want to do is sit by the pool, watch tv, or gossip on the patio.... (PS No, I don't dress up my cats, I found the sunbathing picture on the net but I thought it was the cutest thing)

Some of the animals might simply be seeking nurtients their regular feedings does not provide enough of or in the right form for them to assimulate, but I am sure that is not the entire story for all of them. I have a diluted calico American short hair cat, who was rescued as a 6 week old kitten. Even though she has been well fed and cared for these last five years, she is still very competative; especially when it comes to food. No matter if she has already been fed and is full or not, she still wants to eat other cats' food and even people's food. I never have given her people food, but she still acts like she knows its flavor and that it's something she must have. I know she does not do this because she is hungry; instead, it's a competative thing for her. The problem got so bad I had to seperate her food area away from the rest of pets, and also limit her access to their food. Only since then have its been possible to get her weight down to 11.5 pounds, which is just barely under the topmost of what is still a healthy weight range for her bone structure and body type.

Nancy, Thanks for the reply. I have one that is about 11 inches long from last year, the others are all babies purchased this year. I would guess they are from 2" to 4". I hope you are right and if I keep feeding them as I did my prior fish they will eventually become used to me. But I have been trying to befriend them ALL summer. Your black butterfly koi with white fins sounds just gorgeous. Most of my Koi are butterfly Koi also. I just love that elegant look with their flowing fins and graceful movements in the water. I brought my Koi into my greenhouse pond for the winter. I have one fella left to catch. Let me tell you this....I had a workout just trying to net everybody. ha ha. But I don't want anything to get them during the winter. Also, this way I will be able to feed them all winter long. :) ~Tj~

Any fish that tastes "fishy" is on it's way out slightly spoiled....fresh fish never tasted fishy. Try smoked whitefish and perhaps smoked sardines. And if you are near the Great lakes you might find smoked golden eye...very good! Linda C
