Cissus twining

I know climbing plants in the Northern Hemisphere are twining clockwise whereas they twin the opposite direction

in th southern hemisphere (anti-clockwise)

However there is one excemption l know .

The cissus is twining anti-clockwise in the Northern

Hemisphere (here in Greece it does)

Is there any other plant that is not following the

general rule like cissus?

In Australia twiners we have imported from the northern hemisphere retain their clockwise twining habit. It's one way we can easily distinguish between the locals and the imports. I imagine that Australian plants (like your Cissus) grown north of the equator would retain their anti-clockwise twining habit, too. An exception, in Australia is the "Scrambling lily" , Geitonoplesiium cymosum, which is native to Australia but twines clockwise. Other members of its family (PHILESIACEAE) behave normally and twine anti-clockwise. I wonder whether the habit of the scrambling lily tells us something about its ancient origins??? Purple: I'm not sure where bedtime lives, but when I lived in Grand Forks, ND, I had a philodendron (1 year in a dorm, 2 years in a college apartment), and I never had aerial roots (sounds pretty cool, would make cuttings easier, right? though I suppose it would get annoying over time..) The air was extremely dry on account of having the heat on all the time (outside air during winter those years was around 20 F to -40 F, usually around -10 or 0. I am wondering if that had something to do with it not making those roots? Over those years it grew from a "bush" in a 10" shallow pot, to about 4-5' of many vines dangling off the edge of the bookshelf. I miss that plant! As for this indoor vine project, I agree with what Purple says... several types of plants would make it most interesting, I think. The following links contain some examples of mixed-species "green walls" (I thought they were similar enough to your lattice). I've just spent a lot of time researching the genus Cissus. No luck. Those with chordate leaves have either smooth or serrated margins. None were crenate (small notches rather than small points). The closest I found was Cissus sicyoides 'Albonitens', but still not a match. I have probably 50-75 or more of these growing on my property here in Florida, ranging from newly emerged seedlings to ~3 ft in length (probably nowhere near maturity). There were several dozen more this spring which I had pulled, thinking them too invasive. I now see them more as weedy than invasive. I will be allowing numerous of the current crop to grow in various habitats (shady, sunny, moist, somewhat dry) until I have a better understanding of the plant. Growth is moderate, and they have proven easy to pull and eradicate if/when it comes to that. I think I can safely rule out any from the genus Cissus. RoseTx, I'll have you some loofa (complete with the sponge) and also the cypress vine plants., I'd love to try your yellow bulbine and the yellow iris too if they are still available. I love yellow blooms! I'll be at the park early. I also have to leave early and won't be able to stay for lunch (I'm sure I'll regret this!!!).
