I don't know if it's a problem. It looks so pretty with the pink edging. I know the plants change colors with seasons and drier weather. Mine are more colorful in winter. More light brings the color out. If it'd quit raining I'd take some pictures.

Hi again, Jen, It's been my experience that all the "climbers" need to be allowed to grow out some before training downward. As long as the leaves are fairly developed, it's ok to clip a vine downward (which, by the time the leaves have developed, means the end of the vine will be pointing upward again, which is what is improtant...) But australis ssp. tenuipes is an aggressive upward grower. I tried to keep it trimmed back hoping it would just get bushier instead of climbing more upward, but I couldn't keep up with it. So I gave up and put a trellis behind it. I did this about 6 or 8 weeks ago, and it's already covered with foliage and vines and it's growing into the soffit of my GH. I'd better get flowers from this massive thing this fall!! Denise in Omaha

When you repot Hoyas into a larger pot they will often spend some time growing roots instead of top growth. I had a rooted cutting sit for about three months after I potted it into a 6.5" pot because it was busy growing roots but now it is almost 4 feet tall and growing strong. I know that a lot of people don't like the EA potting mix because it holds lots of moisture and if the mix you used to fill in around the root mass is of a very different consistency you could run into problems with uneven moisture distribution. I would let the potting mix dry out until the top is dry and then check with your finger to see that the mix is also dryish a couple of inches below the surface before you water again. Watering with little sips will cause wet areas and dry areas and you could risk loosing some of the roots. Watering until you see water flowing from the bottom drainage hole of the pot lets you know that the potting mix is evenly moist and it will be much easier to develop a schedual for watering the plant. Most of my Hoyas in 6" or larger pots get watered about once a week but you should get in the habit of checking to see how dry the potting mix is because at times certain plants will need water more than once a week or they may need a few extra days to dry more depending on the temperature, the amount of sun and air movement they receive. I have grown two pots of Red Sensation for ten years now. I keep them outdoors year round in my southern climate. They have made several pups over time. Some springs, I divide one and use the pups in other pots, the ground, or as gifts, etc. One pot I am allowing to grow into a multi stemmed plant. It is a very simple job to divide them and I have never had anything but success. I wouldn't say they are the most prolific plant I ever saw, but they do seem to produce pups fairly regularly.
