How are you guys in Victoria getting ripe tomatoes?Are you using hot houses and raising them to a height of about 45 cms. or what? Your temps. are nearly the same as Tassie and the ground temps. must be up before the plants take off.Maybe it's all that hot air around footy finals time that gets you ahead of us.Please share your secret.

Jay, I'll be anxious to hear how that Mr. Bruno does for you. I recall when that seed was offered on the tomato board. Looked like a big beauty. BTW, I think I can get some of those CP PL seeds if you have any trouble contacting the others. :) Anxious to hear how the Anana's Noire does for you too. The only variety that I lost and didn't have a replacement for after the hail was Ugly, but I can try that next year. Sungold was nearly defoliated, but you wouldn't know that today. :) Spears Tennessee Green, which I got from Alan has a mater forming. I was kinda worried with it being an 80 DTM mater, but I got all the later season ones I dared to try in the pots early in May and so far so good. I thought perhaps you would like our happy little crew. A few months ago Digit started a thread about what RMG was. Not specifically a geographical area, but more the climate and our approach to the challenges was what we thrashed about. :) We have a unique type of growing climate and season that kinda leaves us out of so many discussions elsewhere. And you definitely fit the profile where you are. :) And be sure to chime in on the Who's Here in 2007 thread that Skybird started. We need to count you and anyone else who has just joined us amongst our members. :)

Yes Spatz, I'm really looking forward to being able to grow lots of blueberries. Next to srawberries, they're my favourite! The other berries, well, since I'm sure there'll be room, why not. I'm not madly keen on raspberries though. I don't dislike them, it's just that I don't see what people get all excited about. In England, people used to go gaga over Summer Pudding - basically bread with lots of red berries and syrup. It was far too sickly sweet for me. Made my teeth beg me to call the dentist with every mouthful!

Amanda, are you back from shopping yet? Treat the jars and lids just as you would treat your Vacola jars and lids. Do exactly the same. Forget I said jam (you don't make jam??!!!!!???). As these jars are (a lot) smaller than the Vacola jars, I'd say the water in the unit would start boiling sooner. My instructions specifically say NOT TO BRING TO BOIL. But mine is the foolproof unit. Plug in, put timer to 1 hour, unplug after 1 hour. However, the water in my unit starts to boil after 50 mins or so, that's when I switch off the unit and wait till the hour is over and then take out the jars. So, it's all really easy. Forget you are using different jars. Do as you would with Vacola jars. But do check up on that boiling matter. Put anything you like in your jars/sauce. Herbs, garlic, salt, etc. It'll be processed well and you won't have to worry about it.

Great photo Oz, could be a bit iffy.The clear blue sky worries me a bit.Plants look great, Head is a bit ordinary though. Will post a photo of tassie toms when we get a bit of sunlight.

John, you have to remember that the Show-Off is in Horsham where temps are higher than say Melbourne which is much closer to the Tassie climate. I only have ripe cherries at the moment (Broad Ripple Yellow Currant) and they are earlies. I have lots of Jaune Flamme on the turn, also an early and small. That's OK, his outdoor tommies will be finished in March and ours will still be going strong :-)

Forgot to add... we followed Peter Cundall's "treat-em-mean" advice this year and consequently when we planted out, everything was pretty much in flower. We raised them in peat pellets and when they had their first true leaves, planted them into small pots, watered them sparingly and didn't feed them at all. We have no greenhouse (yet!) but we do have a north-facing patio where the seedlings sit to trap the sun after the weather warmed up. Worked a treat for the tomatoes, and is only just now working for the capsicums as the hotter weather starts. That damned popup add is REALLY annoying me now! I'm going to write to gardenweb about it. Talk about intrusive!

I have been weighing all the tommys so far and writing them down in a book. Today I transfered all the data into a spreadsheet. Highlighted the lot and did an autosum. So far I have picked over 30 KG's of fruit. Will make a batch of ezesauce tommorow. Mantis *this should keep me in no. 1 show off spot*

OK, I'm going to have to fight fire with fire.... Our total yield was 67.5kg last year, but we had Amish Paste which sucked for yield, so let's see what happens this year with better varieties and more beefsteaks :-) I'm off to pick some BRYC for the christmas lunch salad :-)
