It gets cold in the winter, but it also gets very hot in the summer (weeks, if not months, of over 30°C). My suspicion is that the plants might grow OK, but you won't get any ripe fruit from them. Also a high risk of spring frost damage.

I planted a hunza apricot stone about 45yrs ago and still have the tree which is a bonsai . I planted it while living in wiltshire . About 6years ago it began to flower and has flowered every year since . I put it next to an orchard apricot and 4 years ago got 2 apricots which ripened so i ate them and planted the stones and have 2 half bred trees , the largest of which flowered this year so put the bonsai next to it and have 3 fruits which are not yet ripe. The bonsai has had many adventures over the last 45 yrs but always remains in good health . The 2 half bred trees are in the garden and all being well this years crop will be planted out as well . My aim is to have an orchard of hunzas

I am trying to get a hunza apricot , i read they are late flowering which might suit my location at 1000m , its cold in winter and hot in summer here in sw france . Does anyone know where i could get one?

Try buying some fruit, and sow the stones? Not sure if it would work, depends on how freshly dried the fruit are.

I agree with pineresin . Buy a few dried ones and plant the stones , It's 45 years since I planted mine but I think I put it in the freezer for a week or so 1st.
Mine had a few ripe apricots this year - exquisite flavour and perfume .

Don't put the seeds in the freezer! A month or two over winter in damp sand at +1° or +2° in the fridge is much better.

My 4 yr old tree is looking good and am hoping for a crop next year , weather permitting .

Now have 4 hunza apricot trees . The bonsai 46 yrs (flowers but no fruit this year) , a full size offspring from kernel 5yrs (flowers but no fruit this year), a smaller offspring from kernel about 4 years, and a 1yr sapling also from a bonsai kernel

I not too long ago came across your write-up and have been reading along. I wish to express my admiration of your writing ability and capability to create readers read from the starting for the finish. I'd like to read newer posts and to share my thoughts with you.

I grew 10 hunza plants from stones out of dried fruit bought in a health food shop. I just soaked them, removed all traces of fruit, and popped them into a large pot of compost. They survived last winter outside (Norfolk), and look just fine. Currently about 18 inches tall, so they will be planted out next autumn.

Any updates on these?

Is there a latin name for the Hunza Apricot? - I can't find it.

Jerry: It is just a normal Prunis armeniaca, but from the Hunza valley or there abouts.
