IÂm also interested in  Sweet Acacia, Clitoria Pea Vine  Yellow Tababuia  Pink Tababuia I have some seeds from my Magnolia Gem hybrid tree. It is a fairly small tree, this is the first time it has produced seeds so I don't know how viable they are as I have just planted a bunch to see if they will sprout. I also have purple hyacinth bean vine, burgundy crape myrtle, sweet autum clematis, red cardinal vine & a couple different variety of passion flower seeds. I also have 2 different types of tree seeds that my sister gave me, she said one looked like a white iris/ yellow beard & a purple bird of paradise flowers on another tree. I have no clue as to what they really are, I'm also trying to sprout them right now.. Well let me know if anything sounds like something you would like to trade for. Thanks, Debbie

There are some nice fastigate or relatively narrow oaks available. Forest Farm offers two--the Crimson Spire and the Regal Prince. They are both hybrids and should be tough enough for your area. There are lots of nice narrow trees, but be careful, many of these may not be well adapted to the harsh OK conditions--heat, drought, and winds. Oh, another choice might be the Shawnee Brave baldcypress. I am sure there are others, but these come to mone first. --Spruce

I'm in East TN. Some years the water has been as high as the spot I took the picture. I didn't pick evergreens since I couldn't find one with foliage that grows back after prolonged immersion. My priority was to get summer visual/sound screening, transpiration of lots of water and still be visually appealing. I thought the bald cypress had a little more winter screening, but I agree it's a wash. I may add some trees to the higher-level pasture in future, but wanted to put most the trees for this effort near the fence. I like the idea of a random combination with some groupings. I would be glad to hear about any other trees I should be thinking about or other trees I might want to drop. Ralph

Well, your situation, husband, yard, etc. sound like mine a few years back. My husband was reluctant to plant anything in the way that he would have to mow around. After 20 years of mowing all Saturday, his tune changed and we planted a rather large native shrub border a couple of years ago. I did lots of research including coming here (there used to be many more people posting. I bought books by Dirr, etc. I ended starting by buying one shrub of the types that I wanted from a native plant nursery. These were probably 4' shrubs when I bought them and fairly expensive. I planted them and prepared a huge border that fall. The following spring, I bought shrubs from the NH nursery (I'll link the site below) in groups of 10 or 20. After much research, I decided to plant them as they would grow naturally with species together in drifts . My border is irregular in shape. I planted serviceberries (4 or 5 different types), lots of viburnums (American cranberry, wild raisin, arrowwood, etc) native hollies, many varieties of dogwood (pagoda, red twig, yellow twig), elderberries, bayberries, hemlock, etc. I have a big wind problem here and have planted shrub dogwoods to break that wind. They can be chopped periodically and grow right back in a few years. I would suggest places that sell the shrubs relatively cheaply as you want a few in a clump. I found NH Nursery give very good value for the money. Most of the things I got from them were fairly large. Good luck.
