In short, yes. Indeterminates flower/fruit on laterals. If you remove one, there's always another. Determinates normally flower/fruit on terminals. Remove them and that's that much fruit less.
Having said that, I normally remove the first buds to try and encourage more root development. I don't know if this works or not. I think I get just as much/little fruit whether I debud or not.
My only rule in the garden is ENJOY!

Let nature run it's course - that's my advice. But everybody does things differently, you'll have to find a way that suits you best.

I tend to Leave things as they are. As Spatz says, most people have their own way of tomatoeiing.

Let them go and see what happens. See if they are determiates or not and if so don't prune at all.
Like Adam said, we all do things a bit differently. I do things differently every year. In the past I have pruned all my plants back to two or three main stems. This year I am just letting them go, more or less. The patch is turning into a jungle.

I don't remove flowers, but I do remove the suckers beneath the first flower truss. This year my plants are so squeezed in that I'll have to remove suckers later to limit bushiness also. But if I had room I'd let them do their own thing until later in the season when I usually take out the growing tips to let the last fruit develop and ripen.

We moved in, in September, and the garden was formerly a large pinebarked desert with clay underbelly. So I did the cheap thing and dug it all in with a heap of compost/ fertiliser/feild peas with the hope the pine bark will eventually break down into something more usable. Until then I'll be growing broad beans every winter break to get nitrogen and organic matter back into the soil.

I never realised how fast some plants grow. Six weeks after moving in and we were already harvesting the first pakchoi, spinach and a few small lettuce all the while with spring frost and low temperatures.

We put four bales of hay on last week as the temp is getting higher and the clay is starting to turn into bricks.

Sounds like it'll be great soil in a year or two. Clay's a great base, if it softens up enough to get any organic matter in!

About six weeks ago I planted two tomato seedlings using organic fertilizer in the planting mix. The seedlings had 3-4 flowers each. Now the seedlings have grown into pretty big dark green bushes which have plenty of flowers. However non of the flowers shows any fruit developing. The plants are in a a full sun and breezy area. A few flowers have just fallen off of the plant.

I am wondering when and if I will see any fruits. Do I need to do anything else?

Hi There,

I am new to this garden hobby and have a couple of questions which I am hoping you can help answer.

My two tomato plants are about 40cm high and recently I have seen some blossoms emerge.
Do the flowers become the fruit? Where can I expect to see the fruit grow?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

MMmfriday and no answer to Moritz...the answer is yes ...the flowers (when fertilised...by that I mean pollinated) will develope a growth at the base of the flower and this will turn into the fruit which will produce seeds which will later fall to the ground and regrow as a new plant (That is how it is done with tomatoes (naturally)

The flowers on my t plants turn brown and fall off. Very few tomatoes. Any thoughts?
