I have my bananas in the ground already. Planted them this past Saturday, the 15th of April. The weather.com forcasts for the next 10 days do not have any temps below 40f at night. If I were to get any lower, I'll put a bag for protection over the bananas. I have 2 Basjoos, one Ice Cream and one Dwarf Orinoco in the ground. Check weather.com for the next 10 days and if nothing is forcasted for below 40, I'd go ahead and put em in the ground. You can always cover the plants if you get a chilly night.

Wall-o-waters (water-filled protectors) work well for tomatoes for those who cannot wait, like me. I usually have Toms in the ground April 1st with the wall-o-waters around them, really early and pushing the envelope. I use a few of them now, then replant more Toms in July for a late crop. Does anyone else do this? Wallo's also work well around strawberry plants in blossom like right now that may be in danger of frost, but on a very small scale. I cant imagine placing 100 of them. But a few are fun.

It has been a cool, cloudy spring. I planted peas early this year, on March 19th, here in my zone 6 garden. I waited and waited for them to come up but they must have rotted. I finally sowed another packet of seed. I see them starting to poke their heads up now. It seems really late to me. I'm hoping that it won't be too hot for them when it's time to produce pods. I wintersowed veggies and that has also been very slow this year. I would normally have larger seedlings by now. I just transplanted out tiny lettuce, and cabbage yesterday. I have broccoli and other brassica seedlings but they are just not growing. I tried transplanting broccoli seedlings a week ago but they were too tiny and they have barely settled in. I transplanted Bok Choy at the same time and they are just settled in too. I did direct sow spinach and beets maybe around the first of April. They started showing about a week ago and don't even have true leaves yet. As for warm season vegetables. I winter sowed tomatoes and pumpkin. The tomatoes have not germinated yet, which is surprising not to have one yet. Luckily I decided to start some under lights this year and I have a few that are ready to go in the ground. I am hoping to put those out this week with wall of waters to help them along. I already put down black plastic to warm the soil some, but there hasn't been much sun. The ws pumpkin has actually germinated just this week. I started eggplant and peppers under lights too, but I am going to wait until it's much warmer to put those out. I believe my last frost date here is around May 15th. I think everything in my garden is between 2-3 weeks late this year. I hope we have seen the last of the cold nights at least. Toooo Lateeee! As usual I have jumped the gun and dumped all kinds of annual seed packets out there and have tiny tender little plants sprouting all over. But I know a few will survive and become stronger early starts, and seeds to start over a cheep enough. Where oh where am I going to put all those monster geraniums I still have potted up, and all the potted items I have coming up. I lost all my "in the house" window space to a visiting two year old who thinks all indoor flower pots are her personal planting area. She has repotted so many things. If only I had half her speed I'd have all my work done around here in just a day or so. lol so all I have left is the tiny refuge space in the basement.
