Annette beat me to it, but I think Lonicera periclymenum 'Serotina' (also found under the names L. p. var. serotina 'Florida' or just 'Serotina Florida') is really what your looking for, rather than a selection of rampantly aggressive Lonicera japonica. I have one also and the fragrance is quite overwhelmingly wonderful on a warm summer evening, but I'm not sure I'd call it very compact - it's become a pretty big vine in my garden over the years even though I prune it back hard each year at the end of winter. It's a bit early to do any cuttings - softwood taken in June is recommended - but if you get back to me later, I'll see if I can help you out :-) And any hummingbirds that may visit will love it!

I think flower scent is very subjective, both to its intensity and even quality of fragrance. I was chatting with a nursery co-worker yesterday and he has never particularly noticed the scent of vining honeysuckle. OTOH, I can recall stepping out of the house where I grew up on a summer's evening and finding the scent of blooming honeysuckle growing nearby nearly intoxicating in its intensity. Same with my more recent garden, where I grew several different kinds. The lack of scent of a specific plant in a nursery setting is sometimes remarkable by its absence. In the enclosed area where we have shade plants, an entire table full of blooming sarcococca produced barely any scent. Same with daphnes, which in a garden setting often waft their fragrance a considerable distance. I don't have any good reason why this should be so......it just frequently is. Whether it is the issue of establishment, the inground environmental factors, the volume of flowers, heat of the day, whatever......I have found that most plants need to be established in the landscape before they fully exercise their fragrance attributes.

I planted one today, we'll have to compare notes as they grow :). I'm hoping mine will go up a plant pole I used to hang fuchsia baskets on, since we took down the big cherry tree it's too sunny for fuchsias now. I still have the clemie Rebecca on this pole, although mine is not the right shade of red the two might look good together, if not it can be easily remedied. Annette

'Graham Thomas' honeysuckle is one I'd like to find. Almost 15 years ago I got two honeysuckles at the RBG plant sale that were labelled 'Graham Thomas'. I planted them in the garden at a long-term care facility where I was volunteering in the garden at the time. The honeysuckles had beautiful, wonderfully scented, soft yellow-white flowers. BUT the dang things would NOT twine around the supports! We made a spiral by screwing in brass cup-hooks and threading the stems through those. I'm not sure if the vines really were 'Graham Thomas' or not.... I'm not a fan of most yellow flowers but those ones were beautiful! I've searched - in person and on-line - but have not been able to find any locally, and have never seen them again at the RBG sales. I haven't volunteered in the garden at the LTC facility for 10 years now and the ownership has changed - I had thought of going to take cuttings but I wouldn't be surprised if the garden has been ripped out/replaced. (It was in desperately bad shape when I was volunteering there as no one else was helping out and management was not interested in spending any money - not even to buy mulch to try to control weeds and improve the heavy clay soil. I just gave up on the whole thing after a couple of years!)
