Does anyone know of this grass being a weed or pest anywhere? I have acquired some, but as I live near bushland/national park, I am unsure of planting it. I find it hard to ditch a living plant. (Except the camphour laurel seedlings that persistently come up in my backyard - with this I am brave and strong!)
Poa labillardieri is a very widespread species in both coast and tablelands zones of NSW, though most prominent in frosty valleys of the tablelands where it is usually the common large native tussock grass. Graziers don't like it because the stock won't eat mature tussocks, but it is not considered a weed. However, it is a quite variable species, so perhaps one should think twice about planting non-locally sourced material of it anywhere where it's already growing, to avoid genetic pollution of wild plants. But that is less likely to be a problem in suburban locations, especially on the coastal sandstones where this species is uncommon.
