I have only some lettuce mix, gardeners delight tommies, crystal apple cukes,bush beans, silverbeet, and capsicums. It's a rather small plot but does me fine. Would love the room for a bigger one though :)

Red Currants are going totally berserk. They are all still green, but masses of berries on the bushes.

I foolishly gave over a big bit of vegie area to the missus a few years back. I was down and out over failed crops. A fool I am. Now there are roses every where. Oh me Oh my.

Beetroot - being harvested now.

Cavolo Nero - being harvested now, with another crop on the way.

Carrots - a couple of crops, the first about four weeks away.

Silver Beet - direct sown as an experiment, popped up a couple of weeks ago, hopefully it won't get too cold for them.

Cabbage - countless varieties, timed to mature between December and March.

Lettuce - countless varieties, last crop for the year.

Broad Beans - pods starting to mature, hindered by troppo pioggia.

Peas - ditto immediately above.

Radicchio - just about finished, too cold to start again.

Leeks - harvesting the last of them now.

Thus the bulk of the time is spent readying beds for next spring.

I would be keen to learn how much space you amazing people allocate to vege gardens. I have one garden which is approx 10M x 4M. It is crowded but perhaps not as crowded as others. I am currently constructing another of similar size. Because I am infiltrated by possums, roos, hares, etc I need to enclose the garden in a fairly strong cage.
How do some of you squeeze in so many veges?

Raymondo and I have a small plot, but nothing near as small as the little one I had last year in inner city Sydney. We now have a collective garden of 1/8 of an acre. Half of which is garden , and the other half Bindiis and Couch grass.
I grew as many things last year, just not as many of them.
It never ceases to amaze me how little space you need to grow so much.

And that's about it! All mixed up and couldn't really say they are all in my "Veggie patch" as the two vegie gardens that I started with seem to have taken over the whole yard - plants stuck in wherever I could find space!

Daniel, take a look at the ozgallery forum. I posted a picture of one of my trough gardens, takes up little room and dogs can't get in though the chooks used to fly up. You could also net the troughs to keep pests out. We have gardens stuck in here and there. Used to have one big one but found several smaller ones were easier. I have strawberries on a retaining wall amongst ornamentals and papaws in the rainforest garden area, etc.

Meggs, I read somewhere that they need about 1000 chilling hours or so. Night time temperatures at our place do not go below -1C, I think. We do have frosts, but not too severe. The red currants are great to grow. Fuss-free, easy. If you have the required chilling hours, you are welcome to some cuttings next autumn/winter.

Fiona, your place is my favourite vegie garden so far. I like your varieties of fruits and berries. Just wish I could have a peek at it. :)
