One of the first things you want to do is determine if the scratch involves the hardwood floors or is simply a scratch in the protective coating you have on the flooring. In fact, the scratch may simply be a mark in the shellac or the sealant you used to protect the finish. If that is the case, simply buffing the area and reapplying a coat of shellac or sealant will remove the scratch and make your hardwood floors look like new. ciciliotandson

To me, different manufacturers have different colors of BC. I've only seen one retailer sell BT and you will want to stay far away from LL and that Bellajunkwood.

"If you want to change the position of the island you may end up having to replace the flooring if the existing doesn't cover the floor under the island." That's a good point. I'm considering a minor alteration in my kitchen. I have just one spare piece of slate but found that this is still available. The only thing I might add about the slate is that mine has a light gray grout which surprisingly lightens up the whole floor. I rather like the cabinets but am not fond of the diagonal island or the awful posts on either end of the bartop. The positioning of the door is unfortunate and the steps down to the adjacent room are unnecessarily wide, with no handrail going down. If the steps were narrower, it might provide more room for a table that's not crowded. Or a squared up island could have a lower table for four extending toward the room with the steps, possibly even leaving room on the left side for two lower barstools. If you were doing that, perhaps another upper and lower cabinet could be added to extend toward the window. Or if the door and adjacent window could swap place, you could use a smaller square table and place it diagonally, though that might not work outside for the door placement. Lots of potential here.

You will have a hard time finding anything that was made several years ago. One of the regular posters here will call those efforts "a fool's errand". You might be able to get some unfinished engineered flooring and stain it to match. If there are any out-of-the-way areas when you could use this flooring, that would be the best thing to do. If you were able to "harvest" some flooring from existing areas (maybe closets) to use in your project, that would also be an option. It might be best to plan on an using an unfinished product for the entire project that you stain to match your existing project. That would be more expensive, but you would still have your extra product for repairs. However, I did stumble into some discontinued flooring in a vintage store a few months ago. I was completely surprised -- so it might be out there.
