Pyrrosia longifolia fern

Does anyone know where I can buy this fern? I saw it for the first time in a display, and would love to have one.

Valda, I have it growing, try Yuruga Nursery or Robertsons Ferns at Edmonton. It is everywhere in the tropics but Ive never seen it for sale. I have several plants on trees in the garden in NE NSW however none currently salable. regards Kris

1. Not all Polypodium polycarpons are divided at the tips (hence the name "fishtail"). 2. It's definitely not a Pyrrosia lingua. Much different look overall. 3. I think the best bet now just might be a selection of Microsorum punctatum (highly variable from what I see). Joe

Anyone growing Pyrrosia piloselloides?

I could try to grow it outdoors in the summer, but Pyrrosia piloselloides could not be grown outdoors year round where I live, in zone 5. Other ferns in the Pyrrosia genus are more hardy, Pyrrosia lingua, and Pyrrosia hastata are hardy to about zone 7 or 8 or something like that, but Pyrrosia piloselloides comes from south east Asia (Philippines, Malaysia), and is much less hardy. I can't find that fern in my books, but it appears to be some kind of Pyrrosia. Pyrrosia lingua has a few crested forms that are similar, but I have never seen a pinnate Pyrrosia lingua. I have a crested form of P. lingua that looks a lot like yours, but each leaf comes from the rhizome, and it doesn't have leaflets (called "pinnules") on the sides of the main stems (called "stipes") like yours does. I would guess that it's another species. Very nice, I want one!

There are some local Pyrrosias, too, Valda. P. rupestris has very small leaves, and P. confluens can, in good conditions, have leaves to 25cm. These might be easier to get hold of - you'd surely get them through SGAP contacts.
