Physalis
Comments (1)cactus lord: Physalis is usually called ground cherry or cape gooseberry in the U.S. of A. There are a number of varieties available, some edible, others purely decorative. Culture and growing conditions are very similar to tomatoes, to which they are closely related. So if you can grow good tomatoes where you live, you should be able to grow Physalis as well. In many U.K. locations it is difficult to grow tomatoes well because of overall cool summer temperatures, but it is certainly not impossible. The U.K. seems to be warming up. My grandmother used to grow what she called ground cherries in eastern Iowa (the U.S. midwest) as an annual crop. She saved seeds from year to year, and they looked exactly like tomato seeds. The fruits are somewhat sweeter than tomatoes, and she made preserves from them which I did not particularly like, though I loved her rhubarb pie. Don Yellman, Great Falls, VA...See Moreground cherry

Secondly, since you are posting in the Fruit and Orchards forum you may be labouring under the misapprehension that those orange lanterns are from an edible species. They are not. If you are growing Physalis to eat you will have to forgo the orange lanterns. Finally, read this thread before you decide to go ahead....See MorePhysalis cinerascens (Small-flower Groundcherry)
