Ponds in the UK

Nice suprise

Was netting some of the bits from the little pond today, bits blown in over the last few weeks, also got one frog and a baby goldfish, very nice suprise, but i think its parents have been eaten up, not a sign of one :( first time i have seen a frog in my pond this early tho, earliest was mid feb a few years ago.

seems our hobby is becoming less predictable than the weather! these odd mild winter with all the signs of a bad one are changing the seasons, seems we will soon have two, warmer and not as warm lol but sping and atumn will be profuctionary terms!

I am amazed at how much we have seen of our goldfish this winter. Over the last 2 years they disappeared completely for a few months - to the point where I was convinced they were all lost to a greedy heron.
This year I see them every day fairly stationary but quite near to the surface
I presume it is the very mild weather. But even last week when it was cold they were in evidence

me too annieo. last winter all they done was hover underneath the floating heater never to be seen. This winter i see them everytime i am at the pond, even during the few times it has completely frozen over. More recently they are skimming the surface, perhaps thinking its time to start to eat.

Not only is he English, but he has the most amazing English Cottage Garden in town!!! I was driving by one day and it is so beautiful I pulled over and opened my car window...only to be carried away with the delightful scents from his garden...and there he was working away...so I asked him about his yard and he gave me a tour....then told me about the horticultural club...he has given me plants/advice/pots and such...just a great guy!!! Funny too!Aftermidnight has some pics of his garden on the gallery side.

G-Guy, I got those Stella's from Ebay two years ago. They were planted behind that Miscanthus "Varigatus" in the far back bed while they got "bigger" and then I moved 6 of them up front here this spring. Here's a photo of where they used to be. The middle bed has a M.S. "Zebrinus" behind the birdbath (you can see it's previous location next to the Stella's. It's taken off this year now in full sun)... ..and the far back bed has a M.s. "Purpenscens" and a M.s. "Varigatus" Here's a photo of those from closer up. This was in 2005: And here they are in August this year. the Flame Grass is now a beautiful bronze/orange and full of plumes By the way, the newly found "suprise grass" isn't much smaller than the new "Hamlin" in the photo above. I planted in front of the Flame grass about a month ago. Blackie

Mine are still begging for food and have been quite active both on the surface and below. I too have also got babies (goldfish that is).
