Hello Necro, As I stated, I thought you were intelligent. I did not say you were stupid or an idiot, I said you were ignorant as hell....which you are. ('Ignorant' means, "lacking information".) If you were to become more informed, I am certain that your views of the world would change in a dramatic way....which was my whole point in my response to you. What you refer to as my "intelligence" is my knowledge about things. I'm an old fart who's been around a lot longer than you. I use my intelligence to learn things for myself and I do not pay any attention to people with political agendas, such as the major news media. I search for my own answers to things in which I'm interested but it often times takes some work. You seem rather energetic, so that's what I suggest that you do....learn your own truths and don't get it from a bunch of Kool-aid drinkers. I did not see your posts refering to your ideas about humidity, but from what you say, this is exactly what I am talking about that you should do to learn your own truths. Grammar is important, Necro, it gives you credibility. We all make mistakes and it takes work to get it right. (I can tell you, there's nothing worse than seeing something you've written and published that is a mistake!) By the way, businesses are run by honest people who have risked their life's savings and those of friend's to take a chance at that 'dream of success'. Corporations are the same, only bigger. But there are crooks and dishonest people in all walks of life, so don't besmirch everyone else just because of a few rotten apples in the barrel. If you don't like oil companies, well....the rest of the world depends upon oil, just like you do. They have paid for the right to develop their product, just like logging and mining companies. Someone has to provide these materials, our modern life depends on them. I agree that some things can be improved upon, but I suggest that you be constructive about your criticism rather than so destructive. My criticisms of you are meant to be positive, and they could be if you viewed them as such. I don't have the time to educate you about all the things I've criticised you about....I'm a busy person and you need to do these things for yourself in order for them to be meaningful to you. Pawprint - based solely on your user name, if you haven't read any of the Chet and Bernie Mysteries written by Spencer Quinn, they may be books you would enjoy. They are written in Chet's voice - he is a dog and Bernie is a private detective. Our dog seems to think exactly like Chet. You might also enjoy A Dog's Purpose, written by A. Bruce Cameron. It is being made into a movie that is supposed to be out in Jan. 2017. My favourite was The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. I loved the ending. Naturally nature will take its course but at least this book ended on a happy note. It was supposed to be made into a movie starring Patrick Dempsey but they couldn't get a director. Disney then bought the rights to the book and hired a director, but still no movie. Who knows if Patrick Dempsey would still be interested. At this point he could still play the character at the end of the book. Plus he has the "racing" credits.

Since there is such a great selection to choose from today, I might as well stay with Pico Iyer and the quote which starts " I sometimes think that so much of our life takes place inside our heads.......".

I appreciate this post since I'm trying to make good, sustainable choices for a kitchen remodel in the house we chose so we can age in place (location choice based on walk/bike/transit access and got a one-level). The kitchen needs a real rework to be functional. Current cheap builder-grade cabinets aren't reusable in the kitchen (may move some into laundry or garage for reuse). The countertop arrangement will be so different that I can't just resurface or cover those. I've been looking at our local architectural salvage sources and may still find something there. I live close enough to Seattle that I'll have access to the kinds of things made available by the people who do the every-5-years-I'm-tired-of-my-counters decisions. A friend of mine made incredible countertops by refinishing bowling-alley wood but she put hundreds of hours into the effort and that isn't in the picture for me. I'm researching purchase options in case I don't find something through salvage. I started out thinking I wanted Paperstone because it looks so warm and it's made in my state, but I've seen too many comments about fading and marring. I'm now researching recycled glass.
