Yep, I'd give up on that one. Most, if not all Australian plants, need well drained, neutral to average ph, free draining soil and certainly less watering than you gave this one. I'd pull it out, it is gone, and if you want to try another dig a goodly sized hole, mix up a blend of neutral ph soil with sand (river-sand preferably, roughly 50/50) fill the hole with it and DONT fertilise except for perhaps a dose, and only one dose, of sea-weed extract at planting time, e.g. Aquasol or similar. Also, in their natural habitat they prefer full sun: a touch of mottled shade is ok. 90 degree Fahrenheit should be ok, but any higher, say the hottest part of the day, a little mottled shade would be preferably, especially for a newly planted plant. As for a watering schedule: many folks here simply water in and then let nature take it's course. That's ok, but I watch all new plantings until they are properly established and am careful not to let the soil dry out completely. Good luck!

I've been trying to watch all the newly planted plants until they are established - Everything was planted early spring 2013 and mostly young plants. I was assuming I would need to water more 1-2 times a week through spring and summer the first 18 months to make sure they are established and not shocked. When you say - you are careful to not let the soil dry out completely - what does that mean in terms of a watering schedule? I test the soil with one finger deep, but it always seems dry.
