How to get rid of perennial Forget-me-Not?

My front flower bed is being over run by Brunnera/perennial Forget-me-Nots - and I want to get rid of them.

They have a long tap root, which even if a smidgeon is left in the ground, will grow again.

Any ideas for a relatively painless way to "treat" them so that they just shrivel up ..............

The main resaon I hate them is that they have razor sharp leaves that can slice your hands open if you're not aware :(

Glyphosate is an excellent way to kill taprooted plants. Spray at the recommended dilution (about 1%) when the plant is in full growth in late spring. Deeply established plants and any pieces of root that you've already broken off may regrow and have to be sprayed again.

Taprooted plants can of course be killed by promptly removing new growth with as much root as you can get. After two or three goes round there will be nothing left capable of surviving.

I would keep one tall perennial-- whatever tall plant you fancy and put it in the middle of your beds. This makes it easy to weed around the one plant and cuts down on the planting in the spring. Something tall in the middle looks good with low growing annuals. Box Elder bug. Some people do vacuum them up which distrurbs them enough that the release that distinctive odor. My wife will trap them, gently, and flush them. As stated clearly in the link below do not use any insecticide in the house to control these wee buggers. Getting rid of established perennial weeds and grasses

Move your daylillies temporarily. Wait until later in the summer after the daffodils have died down the the year, then spray it out with glyphosate (Roundup). Then you can move your daylillies back after the grasses have all died. It may take a second treatment on the grass. You will have some continuing control of the grasses, but most should be gone and a good mulch or other groundcover will deter them from coming back.

"Pesticide" has very broad meanings that include herbicides and insecticides, so your use was correct. Sowthistle spreads vegetativley as well as by seeds and rhizomes so control can be somewhat difficult. To gain control of the area they are growing in now cover the plants with newspaper or cardboard and cover that with a mulch material, or dig them out. Ontario is ahead of the curve on environmental protection as well as protecting human beings from the adverse affects of the poisons they have banned.
