I bought BHN-589 from Tomato Growers Supply this year. It is a tomato spotted wilt tolerant variety with improved taste (over the other BHN line). Productivity wise, it's a monster on par with Big Beef. It produces a large quantity of 12+oz tomatoes. Disease tolerance seems to be quite good for this variety as it is performing consistently well as others go down to disease... including TSWV! Taste wise, I'd give it a 6 out of 10. (I give Celebrity a 7, and Better Boy a 6, with Big Beef getting an 8.) I'm gonna give the later ripening varieties a better taste test as most of my maters have tasted better on the second and subsequent fruits. Lee

Sydney and friend are sure cuddly cute together! Must see Annakin! And love the name! Name choosing for a pup in a family takes on a life of it's own doesnt it? We took Cooper and Bailey for a swim on Sunday in a local lake. They love to retrieve balls from the water. It is their fav thing to do. as well as ours - we are going first thing on the 4th too. Pirula-We have found that not all goldens take to water- not like labs. We started early, after they bonded. A slow gentle approach with a small hard sided kiddy pool( Petsmart has them ) with a bit of water,add more gradually,never force them, is a good way to introduce them to water, we found. What fun! Our first golden,Cody, a rescue, would not go near the water and we wanted to make sure that these guys love the water. Of course, now our next house MUST have a pond with a bit of land or a lake house. Dreaming of it anyway. Happy 4th! Sue

Ahriman I'd very cautious about the wattles you choose to grow in Spain. Australian wattles have a penchant to becoming environmental weeds when grown outside their natural range within Australia. Examples are Cootamundra Wattle, Sallow Wattle and Golden Wreath Wattle. I am sure you do not want to be responsible for unleashing an Australian native environmental weed in western Europe. This can be confusing. The best thing to do is get to know your plants and where they come from. I live on the Northern Hemisphere, but I do own succulents that originate from the Southern Hemisphere. For example Lithops I don't water now. I water when my fall comes around which would be your spring. I keep them out of harsh sun and just let them take their little plant nap. I water them early fall, but protect them in the winter. If I lived in hardiness zone 10 I probably wouldn't need to protect them. In Dec and Jan it gets a little too cold at night where I live. The worst combo for succulents is watering them, and then keeping them unprotected during a frosty night. Sounds like where you live it's pretty mild during the winter. Right now probably a lot of your cactus are starting their growing period. As long as everything is in fast draining soil the rains shouldn't be a problem. If you get downpours I would find a way to protect them, but if it's just normal rains I wouldn't worry. Like I said what you have to worry about is the cold. If you get frosty nights you will need to protect them. edit: sorry I'm stupid I only know Fahrenheit. I had to figure out what 10C is converted to F. Your fine no worries. As long as the coldest is 10C your golden:).
