I have a native clausena, planted as tube stock in April or may of last year. In that time it has grown to probably about 40 or so centimetres.

Is it safe to dig it up (we have to move house) or am I better to leave it for someone else to (probably) not appreciate?

g'day pam,

one plant that you can't get a lot of info' on hey, anyway for the most unless they are very small i've never had any joy in transplanting natives of any sort they seem to set their root systems deept then start growing on the top.

the 'clausena' budded seeds you gave me most grew well to the first leaf stage then stagnated and started to die in 4" tubes so put them into 6" pots they still wanted to die some hung on and looked like they wanted to grow new leaves but then wanted to die so put the remainder into 1 gallon pots got one hanging in there but not wanting to grow and another hovering between life and death.

me just can't figure what they need/want tried a very week solution of a seaweed liquid fert but they didn't seem to want that as 2 more died at that stage. so hoping at least one lasts long enough for me to plant it out in the coming summer in the new garden.

maybe give it a go hey the new owner may neglect it and let it die anyway.

Len, I think we both need to go visit Tom and get a few lessons. He's had a good survival rate.

The plant in question was tubestock that I bought at Maleny, which once it was planted has never looked back.

Of interest is that the council at Hervey Bay has had some planted for 13 years, yet they have never fruited in that time.

If there is ANYONE who knows of the location of the small population at Bundaberg, I'll give my eye teeth to have that info PLEASE!!!

I've started my first proper garden after years of living in smaller places. I'm currently growing: Cape Gooseberry (basically a weed in my garden) Pomegranate Blackberries (don't know the type) White, weeping mulberry (found on the property) Litchi / Lychee (nursery didn't label the type) Avocado (Fuerte & have been advised to get a Haas too) Apricot (Cape Early, a South African cultivar) Apple (Early Red one & looking for a tart, green pollinator/pie apple) Eureka lemon Unidentified dwarf lemon (found on property) Shaddock pomelo, red flesh Peach (Oom Sarel, a large South African cultivar) Two fruits that I'm growing, but I've never tasted before: - Miracle Fruit (3 seedlings about 20cm, under glass & one recently planted outside). I've served the pills for a party. - Pepino Got a whole of herbs, peppers and veggies too. I'm looking to replace granadilla / passion fruit and mangoes that I've grown before. I don't care for the taste of granadilla but I love the Passion flowers. I live north of Johannesburg in South Africa & it's spring time here. I want to grow some of the traditional fruit trees I grew up with, like delicious sweet Marula (sclerocarya birrea). Marula makes a small, sweet fruit that you can eat fresh when it turns yellow, can ferment into a traditional beer and leaves a hard seed with a sweet nut. Other traditional trees are Milk plum (Englerophytum magalismontanum) & Moepel (Mimusops zeyheri)...I don't know it's English name but I see it's part of the Sapoteceae genus.

For some species, it is normal for seeds to float, especially after a long period of storage. The problem, to begin with, is that A. sclorederma seeds are reported to have a low germinatation percentage. I sure can attest that, because, a few weeks ago, I ordered 25 seeds of A. scleroderma from Ebay and only 2 of them germinated, so far. I even soaked for a few hours and, initially, all the seeds floated in the liquid, but hours later most had sunk.

Maureen, if there were prizes for brevity, you would win one! It helps to have some clues. Where is the tree growing? What part of it do you use for curry? Where did you learn of this use? A closer photo of branches and flowers would help. At present I am thinking family Myrtaceae, possibly genus Syzygium, based on opposite leaves, bronze new growths and apparently terminal panicles of flowers. But there are other possibilities. And even Syzygium is a genus of around 1000 species.

Liatris, Id suggest that they would need planting within a week or so, but as they are a Rutaceae they might be ok, stored in the fridge. I know that Flindersia can be stored for years- but they arent fleshy are they. Kris

ok pam,

ready to do just that as i had hoped i could do well with those seeds you gave me, but i am very dissapointed with my efforts ok there was good germination which was strange for me (but that was from your initial efforts), but there after they all just want to die.

they get very well developed root systems but no top growth.

so if i do eventually lose these 2 i can get tube stock from maleny somewhere? and direct me to tom also maybe he can help me save the last 2.

all i can further suggest is to take a good root ball say a bit out side the drip zone and maybe at least the depth of the plant??? it may survive that.

Len, it was Barung landcare. They had a display at the Woodworking festival in Maleny
