I thought you might like to know that there is no way to email you they way your preferences are set. I suggest you go to the bottom of any page here and click on 'Member Pages'. then Edit Preferences. Then using the drop down box, set it to show your email addy to Members only. then check the box to allow others to email you via the forms here at GW. That will place a link on your member page so folks can reach you. You might also want to (while you are there) fill in your state abbreviation...it goes in the same box as the garden zone. It's very beneficial especially when trading plants. Happy trading! Sue

Hard to say for sure. Can you tell us more about your soil, temps, watering regimen, planting methods, etc? Are there herbicides being sprayed? What's an Attri?

Actually Loquat , Pear , Apple , Quince , Cotoneaster , Pyracantha , Medlar , Photinia and Hawthorne are all related - Pome fruits with a distinctive calyx on the bottom - with Loquat being the most " intergraftable " . Years ago I read in a Huge Reference book on plant propagation that Loquat can be grafted onto any and all of the others . I have a very strong suspicion that loquat can also be grafted onto Indian Hawthorne .The book said that quince dwarfs loquat , cotoneaster dwarfs it even more and pyracantha the most dwarfing - like 3-5' for pots .It becomes more precocious and heavier producing the smaller it gets , But the life is shortened as can also be seen with other dwarfs (maybe 10 year lifespan) . I once grafted an apple variety onto loquat seedling and it leafed out and grew about 4-6 inches and then died very quickly killing the rootstock too. It took about 4-6 weeks total . BUT the inverse is said to be compatible .(never tried yet) I have also grafted loquat onto Photinia rootstock but it has never really had much vigor being still small . Another died after about two decent seasons . I love hearing stories about what works and why and also what doesn't work . Tell us all what any of you've grafted together !

Tony: I believe that you liked the Christmas better. It was the larger fruited variety with less sub-acid flavor. It was the tree closer to my neighbor's fence. Andrew: I am relatively new to loquat. I grew up with them as landscape trees everywhere (we called them Japanese Plum) but never thought to eat the fruit. My trees have been planted out for about two years. And were about 3-4 feet tall when I got them. Obviously, I have never grown them in a pot, but I think they would fruit for you in a pot. They grew about a foot a year, unpruned. I think they react fine to pruning from what I hear. On the mango front...the news is not good. The much hoped for addtional bloom cycle doesn't look like it is going to happen. I have tree after tree with little or no fruit. Very depressing. I've eaten Rosigold and an Edward, but with the limited number of fruits, the squirrels and birds are getting a ridiculousy large percentage of the available fruit. This could be the worst mango crop since the year after Hurricane Wilma when there were virtually no mangoes to seak of as a result of severe canopy loss and uprooting of most of my trees. I am thinking that some of the SE Asian types may still throw a bloom, but the Indian culivars are probably done for the year. Harry
