No idea. It's a lovely photo but for identification purposes, it's not, as there's no idea of scale and the leaves are indistinct.
Can you say where you took the photo and provide a rough description of the plant (size etc)

I agree with you there Alison, I've no idea either, though when I first looked at it a week or so ago I was reminded a bit of the Aussie native, Helichrysum, the 'paper Daisy', but I've never seen a blackish one. Don't suppose the petals feel papery, Psychlucia?
