Rose pests

Some of my rose buds look as if they have been eaten right at the tips of the flower buds and under the still closed calix? the edges of the young petals have turned dark brown and they struggle to open. I have seen in one of the books that it may be thrip, what can I treat them with that is invironmently safe. I have cut open one of the buds and found several tiny light coloured head lice looking things.

(Or is it sun burn? )

i don't know if there is an environmentally safe cure. I read to use an insecticide with a bit sugar in the mix to draw them out and then kill them. I have one rose that seem to need repeated treatment, but it works. Ann

Looks like thrips. Western Flower Thrips. Tho, they do normally prefer lighter colored blooms for their attentions. See link, below, for pix. Jeri Here is a link that might be useful: THRIPS PIX

Thank you very much! P: I guess I need to put more predator attracting herbs down. I also ordered goldenrod(attracts big eyed bugs) to deal with any lawn pests aphids/chinch, maybe the dark specks are their poo?

Mine used be the same....I read somewhere that 1 ladybird can only consume 50 aphids per day. I watched my ladybird working on the chilli plant this morning and was quite disappointed that they were eating so so so slowly... when you brought the healthy roses home, did you spray them with eco oil? I found that precaution is more effective. A scheduled precaution is needed for roses. Also, the eggs of mites hide in the dirt. So cleaning the surface of the ground from time to time works for me.

I know I looked everywhere, cannot find anything. This thing has a multitude of colors and had some spikes on its back, the butt end had two prongs (almost reminded me of those weird bugs that pricked people with those prongs--earwigs). Obviously its not an earwig. Just so strange looking.
