Do you have a reference? While the markings may be ubiquitous to this plant, they are not a part if the plant (in ither words, the plant’s DNA does not code for or produce them). Many fungal and bacterial infections can live (and in fact, do in most plants and animals) for the entirety of a healthy plant’s life and yet are still not beneficial microbes. It is just that a healthy plant’s immune system can keep the infection from seriously damaging the plant so it continues to grow. However if this is the case, there is still some amount of risk letting it go uncontrolled. For example, if the plant becomes stressed and has to devote those resources elsewhere. Or if a more dangerous microbial infection occurs, it can potentialy feed off of the cells of the existing onfection and grow that much faster. Open to any evidence that you have that states arcela palm (dypsis lutescens) stems should be black spotted, but otherwise, i have read that it is a fungal or bacterial infecfion. Before anyone has ideas of planting a paper bark (mainly Melaleuaca quinquenervia) make sure your not planting near any types of pipes, paving or driveways as they will destroy all. I grow Grace G.'s N. 'Wee Willy' and it lives up to its name. It is only about a quarter the size of Mike's Neo. 'Ebay', and more ampule in shape. Mike's mystery neo looks quite like my N. 'Screaming Tiger', but possibly too small... Mike I confess - I often surf Aussie eBay. For over 3 years I have sold and bought broms on there. Our site has a lot more broms on at any one time, than the American 'bay. I have bought some beauties, and rarely been disappointed. I only sell occasionally - excess pups. I'm glad I already had an established collection before eBay got big for broms, otherwise the family might not have eaten! You may have noticed many new release or scarce (for us) broms go for very high prices. Like the U.S. 'bay, we have some dodgy sellers who usually plead "Well, that's the name I bought it as!" when questioned on their names - and so those incorrect names are perpetuated. And a couple of sellers make up hybrid names, for the sake of a higher price. This annoys me intensely, and those less-informed are sucked in. However, we have many excellent sellers who provide an appreciated service to many of us who live far away from specialist brom nurseries. It is a convenient way to buy, and certainly an adrenalin rush on auction close! If a large silver Alc. odorata was auctioned on Aussie eBay, it would probably sell for mega dollars. K
