I think the best way is actually by seed - they generally come up quite easily this way. I often have seedlings come up by themselves in the garden, and the bush is always covered in seedlings after decent rain.

I agree with pos, seed is the only way to go with Eucs. They grow extremely quickly from seed anyway, so if you were thinking of cuttings to get larger plants quickly, you really needn't bother as baby Eucs are bloody fast growers!

I propagated about 100 Eucalytpus macrorhyncha for a friend at the end of winter last year. We planted them out about a month ago, they were already 5 feet tall when we put them in!

I am looking for any info on propogating eucalyptus from seed... ie prop mix/sand, seed trays or tubes, when to transfer and plant out... any info that will give me a great strike rate. Many thanks for any wisdom.

Just sprinkle the seeds into some tubes of potting mix and keep them in a dish of water. This will allow moisture to soak up to the potting mix surface. It is called the bog method.

Just allow the multiple seedlings to fight it out until there is a clear winner. Then you can remove the smaller runts.

When are the seeds ready to plant? Should I harvest them from the tree or wait until they fall? If I'm to harvest from tree, what should they look like before I pick? Thanks much!
