Robert -- 'Fortuniana' is widely distributed as "White Lady Banks" (R. banksiae banksiae). It has the same violet scent, but the blooms are bigger, and often have a lovely button eye. (FWIW, it is also sold widely as "Snowflake.") I love 'Fortuniana, myself. I grow both Fortuniana, R. banksiae banksiae, and R. banksiae lutea. If I had more room, I'd have a few others of the banksiae family. Jeri

lychas - As Nathan said, try and find out what it is first. A likely guess would be a caterpillar doing the damage. If you pick up the growth and search along the undersides you'll most likely find it/them hiding there. Easiest solution is to remove the pests, or spray with an insecticide like Folimat.

Help Me Find/roses says it is cold hardy to zone 6b, so in theory it ought to survive where you are. If I was trying to grow it there, I would plant it on a South facing wall with as much shelter from wind, etc. as possible. Just be careful what you wish for - here is a pic of mine growing on my Zone 9 South facing wall in CA (house is 3 stories tall) ;

Yeah, they certainly match that description, T., however, down south here, "bottlebrush" generally refers to callistemon. Here's another that I've had in for about 10 -12 years. I've been a bit remiss with my plant list and omitted the variety, though I think this is 'Ericafolia'.
