Once dry, a glass jar or ziplock or other sealed plastic bag is fine for seed storage. Most seed stores fine in the fridge, but I have no experience with Gerbera seed and it is tropical, so I would be more likely to store a bit warmer but still cool, though that is just a guess on my part. It looks like as long as it stays above freezing but is refrigerator temperatures (starting with the warmest at 5 degrees C) germination was fine as long as it didn’t get too much below freezing. So storage in a jar or ziplock is the fridge, exactly as Party Music suggested, is fine.

Hello, I am very new to growing from seed. I live in the Boston area. I have a deck and every summer, I love to fill it with Gerbera daisies. They are hands-down my favorite flower. Sadly, they are also very expensive to buy. For this reason, I want to begin growing them from seed. My understanding is that growing these daisies is difficult. I have two questions: 1. This summer I had a gorgeous Gerbera daisy plant. Even though the temp has been in the 40's here, it's still growing. I would like to bring it inside and collect the seeds (to grow this winter/early spring). Can anyone help me understand how to do this? 2. What makes growing Gerberas from seed, so difficult? Any tips? I feel like "nothing ventured-nothing gained" but I would love some guidance. Thank you so much!

Only if they have been pollinated. Otherwise the seeds are unfertilized and unlikely to germinate.

it is stressed.. it is not hungry.. fert is not a proper response ... i dont quite understand if this is potted.. or was planted in the ground ... transplant shock is possible ... was it a florist plant.... sometimes those are greenhouse grown in media that fails outside of a greenhouse ... that is to say.. perhaps a plant not meant to be long lasting.. like many florist things .... it is obviously water stressed ... now all we have to do.. is figure out why ... without over watering it to the point of rotting off the roots as noted above ... any chance at a pic or two?? ken
