Advice - itsa mite magnet, so watch for that particular pest. It looks like there probably was some overexposure to the sun (the white on the leaves). Keep it in a fairly cool spot (60-65*). Use a soil that allows you to water copiously to flush the soil and then let it get fairly, but not completely dry before watering again. If you water that way, fertilize every 2 weeks with about a 1/4 recommended dose of a 3:1:2 ratio soluble fertilizer for the winter, then go to a 1/2 dose when you move the plant outdoors into shade, where it will be much happier. Actually Jen, I think you are doing exactly what the plant prefers. Morning sun....at this time is not a warm sun...rather dim....that's what it likes. Also, average moistness....if you can understnad that. Average watering....test with your finger...not too dry, not too moist. I'd say, rather normal. You are doing that. Put the changes down to the change of environment from the store to your home. The store had its environment.....your home has a different environment....maybe a little warmer due to the furnace being on, smaller rooms where air currents are different. Just don't let it be hit with open windows, doors, heat vents.....it'll be fine when it acclimatizes to your home. Pick off any yellowed leaves and water with water that is at room temperature...about 68- 72F...and don't use water direct from the tap....may be too cold. Let it sit overnight.

Mindy - annual geraniums (annual for us, that is) don't make tubers, they have thick, fleshy roots. What I do is dig them after they've been frosted lightly a couple times (they're usually still green), shake off whatever loose soil shakes off easily, and throw them in big paper bags (I usually use lawn bags, but brown grocery bags work fine, too). I fold the top of the bag over, and take them into the crawl space, put against the coldest wall. I don't cut anything back at this point, just throw the plants in the bags - roots, top growth, clingy soil, all of it. Come early March or so, I take them out of storage, trim the top growth back to about 2" or so (depending), pot up using fresh potting soil, water, place on the light cart. They sprout pretty fast, and often growth will have started while still in storage. When they start to fill out a bit, I start fertlizing, and I take them out on the patio during the day to get the sunlight they need, bring them in at night. Plant out at planting time, sometime in May. I've been doing this for years, and it works beautifully - my geraniums are getting HUGE, they just get bigger and better every year :0) DH laughed at me one year when he saw me potting them up - he called them the "mummy plants". He thought no way would they grow. So now when we happen to discuss geraniums we refer to them as the mummy plants LOL! My sister told me my grandmother used to hang hers upside down in the cellar, but I've not tried that - don't have a root cellar, and don't really want plants hanging from the rafters downstairs in the laundry room...

Hello! I've noticed the same browning/dying of my english ivy that is growing up a large oak tree in my yard. I have a large ant colony in that bed that I've never been able to eradicate and I was wondering if they could be killing it. It's about 3 years old and looked great until now. Could it be getting too much sun just because the leaves aren't out yet? It's been in the 60's and 70's here already, but this hasn't ever happened before! And for those who worry so...I keep it clipped well back, never let it get big enough to flower and burn the clippings so they don't spread.
