It was grown widely in Denmark for pickling the small bulbs, but has gone out of produktion, as small pickled onions are now imported. It is still in culture in Germany.
The real german name is Perlzwiebel. Elephant garlic and Babbingtons leek are very different varieties, so don't get them mixed up.
