Carolyn I haven't personally had a problem, but I did notice for several days that there was a message at the opening of RP in RED saying that they were experiencing problems and were working on them.

I know they've been working on the server. But I've had that message now and again here and elsewhere. Most of the time it means another program is trying to access the computer. Get out your Norton Anti Virus and your Spy Doc program and get them running. YOu also might want to empty out your temporary files and cache.

There is still some fallout from the changes they installed. Over on the Antique Rose Forum there are a couple of people who are having trouble getting on at all. We suggested that they clear their caches, thinking that they were holding on to a bad address from the time the forum was unavailable, but that turned out not to be the case. I used to work for a company that offered databases to libraries, (mostly museum, university and research libraries). Every time we did an upgrade, hardware or software, odd problems would crop up, no matter how much we tested in advance.

It may or may not not solve your problem, but it is always a good idea to clear your cache. I clear mine every day or so. Another thing that can work miracles is to shut your computer down, wait a full minute, then turn it back on. Magic sometimes happens. Honest.

I have been having this happen for several weeks. I just start over again, when it occurs.

Thanks. It was only happening on RP and hasn't happened tonight, so maybe it's over. And, yes, I was able to get right back on without shutting down the computer.

Carolyn, I have no trouble getting on to RP but, as the day goes on (and by the time you in the US are up and about) more and more of these horizontal ads keep appearing. They shoot across the screen and all the written items become squashed on the left hand side. Most annoying.
Despite Firefox being set to block pop-up ads, these still get through.
Does anyone else have this problem?

I've been seeing those ads ever since the changeover at Gardenwebs. I just try to ignore them or close them out. I think it may be the price we pay for all these free forums....

I agree - I can easily ignore the ones on the margins and the slide by ones. Another forum I am on charges $8 per month to use, and I quit another that switched to pay to view as well. So I'd prefer this, as long as we don't have those horrible pop ups that we had a year or so ago

All of a sudden - just now - RP shifted to the left half of the screen, all scrunched up, and the right half is a blank. No ads - nothing. What does it mean?

You are getting the same as me Dido, as I mentioned above, but you seem not to be troubled by the extra ads. Often it is like reading a newspaper column with three words per line.
There is a way to over-ride them . . . will ask computer literate son.

Today, now, at 11.00am, it seems to have settled down. But yes - it was as you describe it. Maybe I don't get the ads because my browser is what certain websites described as 'old' or 'outdated'..... (3 years) If so, I'll stay with it. Anything but ads.

Gone again. Just trickles down the lefthand side of the page - can't put up with it much longer. Remember the Mouse's tale from Alice in W.? 'Mine is a long and sad tale.....', he starts. Alice hears it as 'tail', looks at his tail and wonders at it's being 'sad and long'. The Tale then appears as a tail, wriggling down the page. RP postings are a bit like that at the moment, though they don't wriggle.

Dido and Vee, there is a message at the top of the forums' pages that says you can contact the folks in charge re other issues, at a particular address.

Fingers crossed and touching wood (tapping the side of the head) but through using Firefox's 'Add-ons' (in the drop down within Tools) called NoScript, the ads have ALL disappeared, nothing down the right hand side or running across the screen.
