Really strange because I was wondering the exact same thing yesterday! There was a female flower open and the male flower was almost open so i pealed it open and to be surprise, there didnt seem to be any pollen!? Just the yellow clump in the middle. I went ahead to hand pollinate anyway but I dont think I succeeded because the fruit behind the female flower doesnt look any bigger today... this isnt my first time hand pollinating but ive never come across a male with no pollen! Hoping things will get better next round!

I only got to eat some hardy kiwis once. They were from an old neglected vine that was growing in the canopy of a neglected apple tree. I thought they were dramatically better tasting than any store-bought kiwi I've ever had. They were very ripe. I didn't even find the taste especially similar to store-bought kiwi. They seemed to be as sweet as the sweetest fruit I've ever had (a little like sweet bronze muscadines in that respect) with plenty of balance and great tropical flavors, not really pineapple flavor but that's the closest thing I can think of. I suppose they reminded me of fuzzy kiwis a little (in taste), but I'd rank all the store-bought kiwis I've eaten in the bottom half of fruits. When I ate the hardy kiwis at that time I didn't even know what hardy kiwis were, but I thought they were probably the best fruit I'd ever tasted. Objectively speaking, I've read that hardy kiwis reach much higher brix numbers. I've also heard other people talk about how delicious hardy kiwis were that didn't think especially highly of store-bought kiwis.

I am in the same boat, I have Vincent Female ready to bust open many a bloom. But I have no buds on the Male plant. Anyone have a few cuttings with male flowers that I might use to pollinate? near/north ish of Atlanta would be great... but will drive a ways to give this a try. Thanks!

I have my first ever buds (many of them...) on a 4 year old Vincent Kiwi(Actinidia chinensis, female) vine. However, my male vine is not blooming. Two questions: 1. will it work to place a handful of cut pieces of a male vine that has flowers on them... in a vase around the female vine? 2. does anyone have a compatible male vine that I could clip a few pieces off of? The female buds are about marble sized, not sure how close they are to opening?
