HI GUY'S, I HAVE JUST MOVED TO WANDIN.

1 WHERE CAN I GET A GOOD RED RHUBARB CROWN.

2 what are some names of good tomatoes varietys that will grow in this area

You can grow all the common tom vars like Grosse Lisse, Roma, Rouge de Marmande, that you will find as seedlings at any local nursery....and you can grow pretty well any var of tomato from seed (there may be the odd var that will not do well as far south as Wandin but pretty much any var will grow there (if you do it right)...and there are thousands of varieties
You should look at catalogues by Phoenix (Snug in Tas) and Diggers (Sorrento Vic), New Gippsland seeds (Silvan Vic), Greenpatch (organic, Taree NSW), Eden Seeds (Gold Coast Qld), Select Organic (Gold Coast QLD) and Greenharvest (Organic,Maleny Qld) who between them have hundreds of varieties to select from

Can you just carefully clear some of the soil around the base of the crown? Fingers would be the least damaging way to do it. If the soil is too hard to clear it away then yeah I think you will need to at least raise it. I'd try coming in at a deep angle for the side say 8-10" away from the base and losen the clump from the soil. Work around it carefully until the whole crown will raise up enough to work additional soil in below it. Good luck. Dave

I wouldn't worry so much about it. Rhubarb is extremely vigorous and it will establish itself if you give it half a chance. Mine has come through early and frost has hit it hard but no problem at all. I believe you will see a rhubarb miracle very soon.

Not all varieties of rhubarb are red, the green varieties may get a little red. There is little to no difference in the taste of red and green varieties. If you want redder sauces and jams, you can add food colouring. If the stalks get too large they get more fibrous, but since they are usually cooked to mush for sauces, jams, pies etc they are still usable. Rhubarb will flower if allowed to mature and the crowns do spread and put up new buds. Since you haven't harvested yours, it is growing well. You can divide the crown into separate plants by digging and cutting them apart, do this in early spring or fall, not now at the height of summer heat. HI PETER, THANKS FOR THE INFO. JUST BUILT MYSELF A LITTLE HOT HOUSE. I BOUGHT FOUR WOODEN FRAMED FULL GLASS DOORS AND PUT A LASERLITE ROOF ON IT. 4 DOORS COST A TOTAL OF$25.00. 3RIGHT ANGLE BRACKETS TO KEEP DOORS OFF THE FLOOR $ 1.50 EA & $20.00 FOR THE LASER SHEET. A CHEAP HOT HOUSE THAT WILL LAST.
