Syzygium Francisii (Francis' Water Gum)

I planted a Francis' Water Gum about 12 months ago and it is now about 1 metre high and growing well on a slope with full sun. It is about one metre horizontally from a concrete driveway and about three metres horizontally from a link block retaining wall. I am wondering if the root structure is going to disrupt the driveway or the retaining wall as it grows bigger.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Tony...do you really want a tree that can grow to 40m tall, that close to anything?

    Hi Tony,

    I'm afriad that I am with Shax on this one. There *is* a dwarf form of Syz. Francisii, but its a little late given that you have spent 12 months gorwing this one.

    If you get a chance to look at a copy of 'Native Flora' from the GA team, there is a magnificent photo of one of these rainforest giants in its natural habitat, and it is an absolute monster, both in height and width. Imagine the photo below with another 20 metres of growth each side ...

    There is no possibility of this tree growing to those sizes in cultivation. If it gets to 10 m in your life time you will be lucky.
