Thankyou haringfan. Yes I do mean Cobaea scandens. I noted that when I was growing them in my greenhouse. They seem to love water, while purple hyacinth bean vine didn't seem to like as much. Good tip on not letting them dry out. I will watch that. filix

Update: I was looking at seeds to buy and had talked myself out of buying them. Later I was browsing my favorite Ebay Plant Seller and saw that he had a small plant listed. So that clinched it! I also bought a Snowbank from him as the one I bought last year died. I love variegation so I have to try it again. He also had the variegated Hibiscus 'Snow Queen' so I had to get that too. Those were all buy it now but one other plant doesn't end for 5 more days. I will have to be patient! *Lucy* The Amaryllis bulbs are probably from the last 15 years or so. They are mostly all red and the kind you get at Lowes. I do have a few other colors. I used to get them at the end of the season when they marked them down. Thanks and good to know about the purplish leaf. They seem to be doing little to nothing so far since putting them in the ground, but I'll keep them watered and wait and see. Heather, I don't recall the seeds I soaked as being particularly slimy. Don't know if that really tells you anything. I also stuck some leftover seed directly in the soil next to my seedlings just in case. I suspect that even if they do sprout, our season may be to short for flowering. We'll see! It's always fun to have an experiement going on as long as the entire garden isn't affected. We have "drought" conditions in our area which is highly unusual for this time of year. It may be tough pin pointing shortfalls. Leigh

It's far too complicated to figure out proper dosages of all those products (some of which are completely unnecessary) when just purchasing a prepared water soluble houseplant fertilizer is so simple. And not expensive - small pacakage/bottle will last for months. Any houseplant fertilizer will work (Schultz, Jack's, even Miracle Gro) but many prefer FoliagePro by Dyna Gro.
