Some brides are interested in growing their wedding flowers. Some purchase flowers from a flower farm and do their own arranging. Some prefer to have a flower farm do the arrangements. And, many purchase from a florist who is supplied by local flower farms. Wildflowers are perennial plants. Seeds for these are planted in the fall. Some of the wildflowers featured in the link to wildflowers in Upstate New York are either considered invasive or protected. One example: Loosetrife. Many are in bloom well before Labor Day. I'm going to assume you are interested in the wildflower look as opposed to actual wildflowers. Some brides feel zinnias, scabiosa, rudbeckia, daisies, larkspur and foxglove fall into this category. Now that I have pulled OUT my herb seed plugs,...I finally got my tomato kit, along with all the others I bought. I didnt want to wait 6 months to plant my tomatos. So I see these are planted in a sponge that is like the throw away sponge brushes for painting with varnishs or shelacks. Very light and porous. I looked into the rockwool situation, and the company that sells it said it would work great in my AeroGarden, just soak it for 1-2 days and rinse out before planting into it. To get the PH right? So I might just buy a small package of them off of EBay,they are round and have a slit cut in them already! Already to go! I planted the tomatos,turns out you only get 2 red and 1 yellow tomato plug planted and ready to go. Then 4 empty plug spaces,it makes room for when the plants are big, down the road. I saved the sponges and baskets and domes from the herb kit and when/if I get tired of tomatos, and I want to try it. I can plant my dwarf marigolds, use the 'petunia setting' for lights and food, and see what happens. I put in 1 plug with new dwarf marigold seeds in it to see if they sprout and if there will be room for them, once the tomatos grow. Its day 3 and so far no sprouts. Boy I'm impatient! IF I actually get another unit for Christmas,I'll plant up lettuce or salad greens in that one. OR maybe do the petunia kit! Everything that I cant grow out side for more than 2 months, without bugs or something else killing them. The heat alone usually gets to them. So I still dont know where to get this sponge, this light and airy sponge,but this Rockwool seems to be the next best choice?

Dorothy already mentioned planting in blocks, which is probably the thing many new gardeners most often fail to do. It has to be in blocks to ensure your ears are filled with tasty kernels. When I see a single row of corn running down the side of a garden, it makes me sad to think of what poor ears they'll get with a planting like that. Corn is wind-pollinated, so you plant in a block so every ear can get pollen from the plants around it. Plant it as soon as possible so your ears have time to mature before the first freeze of autumn. So, for this planting, you'll be restricted to whatever seed you can find on the seed racks since it already is past the recommended planting date of 7/15, and you don't have time to order seed and wait for it to arrive. Pretty much any variety of corn will grow here, so it really is all about selecting a variety that will have the flavor you like. Older varieties tend to have more of a true corn flavor whereas newer varieties have been bred for more sweetness. You can choose whichever appeals to you. For fall corn, you're always just crossing your fingers and hoping this isn't the autumn that comes with an extra early first frost or freeze so that the corn will have time to mature. We tend to grow both the supersweet and triplesweet types and they're all good. We also grow the older varieties that have more of a corn flavor and less of a sugary-sweet flavor. The older varieties we like include Country Gentleman/Shoepeg corn, Texas Honey June, Silver Queen and Merit. We like the Kandy Korn that Dorothy mentioned, and one called "How Sweet it Is" is really outstanding. In the spring, I often plant one called Early Sunglow because it has a really short DTM. The plants are small and the ears are small compared to corn varieties that take 3 weeks or more longer to mature, but I like that we can harvest Early Sunglow before Memorial Day from a late March planting. You can make life more interesting by planting Ruby Queen, which has red kernels, or Jade Blue which matures from green to blue. Your main corn pest will be corn earworms, but they might not find you the first year you grow corn, especially if you don't have any other home gardeners or farms really close to your place. I'm going to link an OSU fact sheet that lists vegetable varieties recommended for Oklahoma, but there's tons of great varieties that aren't on that list, so don't be afraid to pick up a pack of seeds at a nursery or garden center. I'm new to grow lights as well, but I had to get something as I have many seedlings that are in their first year and not supposed to go dormant. I ended up getting a T5 fixture, 4 lights, 4 feet long. It was $98 including shipping on ebay. (That's for shipping in the US, I don't know about other locations)From what I read the T5's are the newest type of tube grow light, supposedly more efficient and better than it's predecessors the T8 and T12. These are also supposed to stay cooler than many of the other types of lights, not as expensive as the LED's, and the wattage is higher than what Home Depot and the box stores sell and also beat their prices too. For my budget this seemed like a great option. You can get vegetative or bloom lights, for me I got vegetative. My boyfriend saw the size of this thing and thought I paid $300 or $400!!! LOL!!! Thank goodness I got to tell him it was nowhere near that!
